Sangs

Well it looks like putting my sangs in the ground under the shade of the fir tree seems to be doing the trick. They haven't wilted yet and are growing well. They are getting some morning sun and the rest of the day are in shade. Hoping for blooms this fall.

My sangs seem to like it beneath my fir trees also. The 2 largest are still in pots, so I think I may move them about 12' farther east, where more of the morning sun manages to filter thru the boughs. I think they're just a little too shaded at the moment. I have one in the ground, but out a bit farther from the tree trunks & it gets more sun (definitely brighter light), without wilting. I moved your arborea over beside that sang & it likes it a little better than the last spot. It still wilts a bit if the sun "finds" it for more than about 30 min, but picks back up quickly.

I'm trying to get some yardwork done, but it is soooo muggy out today. I've created summer homes for my older potted brugs, but now need to prepare a spot for about 80-90 1-gal. pots to move to...these would be my seedlings & overwintered cuttings. I have 3-4 allotted spaces - just need to finish preparing them, then hope they can handle the sun they'll get there. Right now, most of them are still clustered along the east wall of the house & are shaded from about Noon on. When they move, they'll get sun nearly all day. In about 5-6 weeks they'll get up-potted one more time...hopefully the last time for this year.

I am also moving my cutting to larger pots. Hubby got me 3 bags of supersoil saturday and thought that would be more than enough. Well after potting up 3 tomatoes and all my babies, will have to go get more so I can finish. Today is a good day to just putter around the garden and get the odds and ends done.Too muggy for anything hard but too nice to just vegge out.

Patrick, what was the cutting you gave me at Nov Green elephant? It is the only cutting that I dont have a name for.  The Aborea and the Raffaella are getting ready to boom soon.

Allison, I'm pretty certain that cutting was Betty Marshall. This year, it's my largest plant, with 2 trunks and a nice scaffolding of branches. Last fall I pruned it for shape & it had virtually no die-back over the winter. A week or so ago, I drug it out of its pot & trimmed the root ball, then repotted it with fresh Cedar Grove potting soil. I'm hoping for a huge performance out of it this year...I positioned it "center stage" where 2 paths converge in the middle of my backyard.

If you got the 'Rafaella' from me...that's a misidentified brug...I was quite disappointed in mine when it bloomed. It's sorta pretty in it's own right, but just wasn't what the label said.

Like you, I puttered at this and that, without getting into anything intense. The "heat" felt very oppressive with the approaching storm front. I'm getting intermittent windy spells...fearful it will blow over some of my potted brugs.

If it were Betty Marshall, she will give you quite a show, Patrick. Mine has already had one big flush, and the blooms have remained pretty despite the many rains on them. She and Charlie G have kept my garden quite fragrant already.

Carrie, no question that mine is Betty Marshall - I just wasn't sure that the cuttings I took to the plant swap were from that brug. After thinking about it awhile, I remember that it WAS. BM remains a favorite - she's like a giant Easter lily when she blooms & has been one of my best performers.
