Hello everyone . I recently decided not to grow my dragonfruit cactus anymore due to space. If anyone would like a cutting, please let me know. All I need is postage (varies on size). I think the shipping cost is something like $4 flat for the smaller ones and $8 flat for the bigger ones. It's been a while since I have shipped cuttings. The cuttings are atleast 1 inch thick and vary from 4 inches to over a foot. They can be pretty pricey sometimes on the internet, but if anyone would like some all I ask for is the cost of shipping. I have the red and white pulp varieties. I can also cut my yellow one (selenicereus megalanthus) into a few cuttings if anyone is interested. I just don't have the room. They produce big flowers and fruit (I haven't seen it bloom or fruit yet though). They do grow fast (Mine grew from 6 inches to about 7 feet in one year)!! I have about a dozen of the red variety, about half a dozen of the white, but only 3 of the yellow (it's hardest to find). I thought if anyone was interested I would be more than happy to share these with you all. Just let me know. I will cut them as I get requests, so they will not be rooted yet. I know this forum is for brugs, but I figured maybe some of you would like something a little different.
I'd sure like to try one of the red-fruited varieties. I've had good luck with epiphylums and I've been wanting to try one of these. If you send me an email I'll arrange to get postage to you.

Hi Jason,
I'd love to try a small box for postage. Please shoot me an email with your address and I'll send out postage to you. One of my good friends at work lives in Royce City what a coincidence.
Please let me know and Thanks so much for sharing!
Colleen
Colleen, I'll bet your friend could just bring it to work with her, and you could pick it up there. Better for the plant if it could work out that way.
Jason
First of all I would like to welcome you to the forum! You will find a wonderful group here that are so helpful and like family.
I would love to try a small box of the red Dragonfuit if you have enough. My email address is HorneL546@aol.com. I have never had these before, but I do love the exotic fruits. Thank you for your generous offer!
Jason they do grow fast! My red one grew about 6' in a season. My white variety is much slower but that might be because it was much smaller when I got it. How do you stake yours up? I'm having a terrible time with that, especially when I have to winter them over inside. I also have some weird segments that are thin and cylindrical, not like the normal growth. Do you know what that's from? They are very easy to start from seed. Someone sent me seeds a couple weeks ago and I planted a pinch. I'm pretty sure they all germinated and I now have a bunch of baby dragon fruit. I have no idea what I'm going to do with them or how fast they grow. I didn't know there was a yellow or pink variety. Do the plants or the blooms look any different than the red or white varieties? If you have any yellow or pink left after you have sent all your cuttings out please let me know.
Thanks,
Karyn
Hi Karyn, the blooms from what I know bloom the same regardless of fruit color.
I planted some seeds too and they grew about a foot. They are about a year old. The weird cylindrical growth eventually look like the mother piece as they grow. I post my dragons in a big pot with a 4x4x8 beam in the center. I normally put a reinforced trellis flat on the top but have had them in the house for about 8 months now without them. Its not easy to fit them inside. Here is a pic of how I post them.
The post looks like it makes a better support than what I've been doing. I guess I didn't notice that the growth was so thin before because these pieces look like long pencils and have looked the same for quite some time. My other sections of growth were shorter and filled out much faster. Maybe it's because they grew while the plant was inside? I wish they were a bit more attractive. lol Thanks for posting that photo.
Karyn
Jason,
Just wanted to let you know I received my cuttings yesterday!
Thank you sooooooooo much for sharing! They made the trip with out scratch!
Colleen
Your welcome Colleen. Nathan I also sent yours out Monday, you should be getting it soon if you haven't already. I will be sending the rest out to the people who asked for some next Monday.
Jason,
The package arrived at my house today. Thanks again. The cuttings look very healthy and I was impressed how similar to my Night-blooming Cereus, just with the addition of spines. What sort of light conditions do you have your plants in? Are the adapted to natural sunlight or will I have to harden them off to go outside. Also, what sort of soil do you use for Dragonfruit? I just use MG potting soil for my NBCs and they do very well. From a quick google I'm thinking Pitaya need more drainage? I have some very very well draining mix sitting around I'm going to pot them up with until they root.
Thanks again.
Peace,
Nate

Hey Nathan. Glad to hear it got to you okay. I noticed they don't really mind what you plant them in. I had some in 50soil/50sand and some in regular potting soil. They grow really well as long as they have good drainage. I kept mine in filtered sun and just brought them in the house for winter.
I have the cuttings all packed up for Joy, Linda, and Tom. I will send them out first thing Monday, so you should be getting them around Wednesday or Thursday.
Jason
I received my cuttings today! Thank you so much for your generosity. They look very healthy and I can't wait to get them potted and growing. I will post pictures once they start growing some. Looking forward to blooms and fruit!
I got my cuttings, they just had to wait on me at the PO a few days(why do they make 7 kinds of brake shoes for the same van year?)They we're fine and are now potted up.For now in 4 inch pots,by color& package.I still have to take them from kitchen to the shade bed
? ......Are the colors marked fruit color or flower color?
I noticed they very closely resemble those grafted cacti you see at walmart with those red, yellow or pink balls of cacti grafted to tops.
I'm glad you received them in good shape. They are labeled by fruit flesh color. They all are supposed to bloom the big white flower like an epi, but the fruit is what is differant. They look the same on the outside but the flesh comes in colors ( and flavors I think).
I think they do sometimes use these for grafting since they grow so fast. I know they use types of selenicereus and assume they use these hylocereus as well. I hope they do well for you and I would love to see your pics when they bloom.
i have a few of those grafted cactus from a few different places one of them i bought had a sprout coming off of the rootstock i planted it and this is what it looks like today i did not expect it to grow this much in less than two years. i am waiting for it to bloom it may get fruit if the dragon fruit varietys i have bloom at the same time for cross pollination but the other varietys i have are still very small compaired to this pic and one of the varietys i have does stay more rounded and does not grow much like the one in this pic.even the thin one that is also called night blooming cerius along with 10 other varietys of cactus. will bloom and sometimes put on fruit. the thin one i have has never fruited but i have never had any cerius blooming at the same time i guess they pollinate each other not real close related but close enough for that.

its called tapioca plant variegated of coarse i have never dug one up to see if this ones makes the edible tubers.i actually grew this cutting for a friend hers was looking bad and thought it may die so i got a cutting just in case but the plant is doing fine now i will keep it just in case hers does end up diying. i had the cactus in a one gallon for six or seven months than it has been in the three gallon for the rest of the time i am waiting till it flowers to see if it may be a fruiting one. have no clue as to what cerius species they use for the rootstock for the grafted cactus. it is defenately a faster growing one as far as i can tell i have two other frutiing species that are growing but nowhere near as fast as this one. i may get some more cuttings going from it and graft the other two cerius to it to see if it speeds up the growth. not like i need another project lol

I've read that I can use the pollen from my other epis to pollinate this with.I have a strictum& a ric rac thats not bloomed yet.My MIL brought a cutting back from FL in May and stuck in ground but it has done notheing.it's spines are different& its shape is slightly different.I will go with my 2 qt pots 1st then.I'm looking for some daybloomer epis to add,so don't worry about crossing them yet, plus are still young.
I like the variegated Tapioca.I rember now seeing it in my neil Sperry's magazine. It was just larger.8 ft tall and wide with bottlebrush. He claims its a fast growing tree.
hello jason, i saw your ad for cuttings. i'd be interested in cuttings of any epi or whatever you have. i'd pay more than just postage because i'm an epi freak. they're such a beautiful flower. if you're interested i can send you some small orchid plants if you're interested. the phaleonopsis violacea is the most fragrant i think. just let me know the cost, etc. my email is almim12@yahoo.com thanks. al martinez
