Does anyone have pics of Miami Orange Glow? Mine is in the 2nd day of its 1rst bloom. So far, it doesn't have a hint of orange...just a soft yellow! With warm temps and sunshine, I feel like it has as much opportunity to show its true colors as it'll ever have here. Input, anyone?

Brugmansia 'Miami Orange Glow' has wonderful 12" trumpet shaped flowers that start out yellow them turn a creamy orange with a yellow glow said the one I got on Ebay. The picture showed orange. I'd send a picture but don't know how.
Thanks, Jody & RA. I'll keep an eye on my blooms and see what they become. So far, the color is slightly darker yellow than the Dr. Suess plants I currently have in bloom. If my CG were blooming, I'll bet the colors would be very close. It's cool (61F) and rainy here this morning, so I think I'll have to wait for the weather to return to normal...yes, contrary to popular belief, this ISN'T the normal weather in Seattle - at least not in mid-July...lol.
I'll also pay closer attention to the fragrance. I have a feeling that is what attracted me to MOG in the first place. I did note that it's fragrant, just need to focus on that a bit more.

Well, here are my Miami Orange Glow blossoms taken on two different days. Conditions were pretty much the same, sunny, warm, & humid. I'm inclined to agree with Patrick, it resembles both the Charles Grimaldi and Dr. Seuss in form and color. The bottom shot that I just took a hour ago is possibly a bit more orange. Calyx (long & narrow), blossom hangs pretty much pendulous and the leaf (slightly serrated, medium green)...all characteristics of the formerly mentioned brugs.
Does anyone have the parentage on this brug? I would bet that DS or CG are in it's heritage. Who registered this brug and when?
Varying conditions (zone, temps, soil makup, care given the brug featured), camera make, etc. all affect the brug/blossom appearance.
Jarie, my MOG blooms do look very much like yours, especially your 1rst pic. Mine has serration only on the younger leaves...the older have smooth edges. As I look out my kitchen window (raining too much to go out there) at MOG, I also see Dr. Seuss about 8' beyond. The tendrils on Dr. S recurve much more than MOG and Dr. S is noticeably more yellow than MOG. Otherwise, I do see strong similarities in the two. What I don't see in either yours or mine is the very waxy appearance on the inside surface of the corollas, nor the particular shade of orange we see in the linked photos....of course that can be amongst the variables seen between one pic and the next, as well as due to the other factors you mentioned.
I will continue to watch mine. I'd like to see a bigger difference between MOG and Dr. S/CG. I don't need several that look nearly identical! I'd rather make room for something different.

Patrick, brought these two blossoms in to compare. On the left is MOG and the other CG. Unfortunately, I don't have any DS in bloom right now..will try to snap all three if they bloom at the same time any time soon. There does seem to be some of that waxy orange on the inside of the corolla of MOG but can also see it in CG. It's tough right now to compare the leaves since my CG is an giant in his prime and MOG is a youngun' thus doesn't have many overly mature leaves. As for tendrils, both seem to curl back for me and of course, they differ from bloom to bloom.
HI Patrick, Mine hasn't bloomed yet either, but i've had an aweful lot of bud droppng going on this year with all the raining going on. You'd think those plants would love all that rain.
I think she has buds, but not sure on that either. Need to go check it out.
I haven't been around here much. Haven't been on any of the forums much.
Sorry about that. Been so busy, we're building a new shop and it's bigger than the house. the veggie garden has taken over my time as well.
Yeah, Kathy...glad you've reported in. We're having one of little lulls here, so you're not the only one that's busy! I hope your bud dropping stops & you get to enjoy the flowers.
I have a Wretched Mess that's about to open it's first bud. I notice it dropped a small one...hope the other little ones keep on keepin' on. We have a Pineapple Express streaming in here from the general vacinity of Hawaii (hence the name)& it's going to dump a bunch of rain here the next 24 hours. This phenomenon is something we usually experience once or twice during the winter...it is really rare this time of year. This is right on the heels of a week of rainy weather...we have rivers threatening to flood....so bizarre for mid-July. So far, this rainy spell has been relatively light and spread out over a lengthy period, so it's been doing a lot of good. The gusher that's coming isn't going to be quite as welcome. Once it's done, we're supposed to return to sunshine & low 80's - our normal weather for this time of year.
I think I'm getting together tomorrow with Carol & Jody for lunch...don't think it's going to be a "tour the garden" kinda day, tho.

I wish you could send some of that rain my way. I have cracks in the ground that I can stick the garden hose into. The weeds are even starting to die. I do hope you don't get flooding type rain out there. Stay safe.
Like, Shirley, hope you get no flooding, Patrick. We've been gettings lots of rain, too, and have had flood warnings for several days but nothing that's really worrisome. One day we did measure 4.7 inches which is unusual for us.
Now you and the San Antonio area are getting what we got for a long time, Jarie. I actually could use a little shower about now. It isn't dry yet, but it would just keep things green.
I haven't watched the news today, so don't know what became of the heavy rains that were predicted. It rained some during the night, but nothing unusual. Today there were showers at times, but no big deal. It was warm and very humid...very little breeze.
The Seattle area is rather hilly...hills & valleys. I have the good fortune to live near a hilltop, so when flooding does occur, it's not at MY house!
Last I heard, sunny weather should be back, starting late tomorrow...hope that is still true...I have brugs to up-pot!

Ok, given a chance to mature a little, the MOG blooms have taken on a definite orange hue. In bright light, mine looks less orange, but I took these pics while it was cloudy & late in the day. I put MOG up on a stool to compare its color with Dr. Seuss. I hesitated before, but now I'm a fan...I do like MOG.
