Hi everyone. I've had one Angel Trumpet for three years and now know htat it hasn't flowered because I 1)never pruned it and 2)fertilized it once a month. I did keep it inside when the temp dropped below 40 outside. Now I am in love with all the different ones and have found Ebay. Needless to say I won't have any cuttings this year but maybe next year. what I'm desperately looking for is Brugmansia Allaquippa, even if it is only a cutting. By the way, will I see any blooms this year from the new starts. Some of them have already "Y"'d. None are taller than 2 feet. Thanks for an interesting forum. I've already killed 6 slugs with the ammonia.

Jody

Thanks for the welcome. I live in Renton, WA, south of Seattle. Zone 8b. I understand that I should bring in all my plants for winter. So...no room for the car in the garage.

http://www.karcheskycanna.com/ is the hybridizer of Allaquippa and they list it for limited sale on their website.
Click on the word Brugmansia in the left side of their page, then scroll down and click on

Welcome Jody. I'm surprised that you've had the restraint to hold it to one brug for so long. Just wait until you get blooms, you'll be buying/trading many more. lol

Ruth Ann that grower has some gorgeous brugs! I just sent an email regarding the availability of several varieties. They might be more then I'm willing to spend but you never know.

Jody, welcome to the group. You'll learn so much about growing brugmansia from those who share their knowledge here. Sounds like you've already learned that brugs require quite a bit of fertilizer and moisture to perform their best. Won't be long til you have your present brug shaped up and you'll soon be longing for more.

Welcome, Jody. From what I've heard, you've been keeping eBay pretty busy, building your collection of brugs.

Folks, our lurker Carol (pink petunia) knows Jody & put her on to us. Carol holds down a pretty hectic work schedule, so we have to forgive her for not participating more. She does love brugs and accompanied Sally & I to the brug get-together at Tom's a few weeks ago.

Jody, if your brugs have Y-ed and are less than 2' tall, they must be cuttings from the flowering zone (above the Y) on the plants they were taken from. Once they Y, they should bloom.

Maybe Carol & I can take a look at your brugs & see if there are any suggestions we can offer. I'm growing most of my brugs in full sun, altho that seems to bleach the leaf color a little. The plants that get partial shade are darker green. I water almost every day & had to water twice a day when we hit our record high temp last week. I feed mine once a week. There is no single "right way" to grow brugs...everyone has to find what works to his/her satisfaction.

Read back thru all the threads you can...there's good info to pick up along the way.

Hi Jody. Hope you are having fun reading old threads and learning all there is to know about growing brugs. I know this year many have been challenged by too much rain, not enough rain, and the unbearable heat. Hope you have better luck where you live. Enjoy....brugs are very addictive.

Carol & I had a very nice vist at Jody's yesterday. She has a beautiful yard full of flowers...a definite green thumb going on there. Her brug collection is almost all new, but she was bitten hard by the brug bug! She has a lot of cultivars already & still adding. She is anxiously awaiting her first brug blossoms to show up. We chatted brugs for quite awhile, as well as the topics of cats, dogs & birds! It was a great afternoon.

Sounds like you all had a nice time! Sounds like our house~cats, dogs, and birds (parrots)! It must be nice to have people who love brugs living in close proximity I haven't seen any brugs here but mine and the spider mite infested ones at the Big Box Store lol! I have lots of friends and family members addicted now, but they all live in Phx which is about 3 hrs away. Of course my mom was growing an unknown yellow brug in her irrigated Phx home under a AZ elm when I was young. No one knew what it was back then though, lol. I've supplied her with copies of most of my brugs and passifloras now since she just bought a new house and has an acre to fill up!
