I've added a few photos to my thread in the brug gallery. Unfortunately, Iowa weather hasn't been good this year and I'm not having many brug blooms yet. The pictures are just a little of this and that.
Oh, my, your new passion is absolutely breathtaking - those are such pretty hibiscus, and all are tropicals, aren't they? All of your garden looks so inviting.
Shirley, your yard is looking beautiful & you're putting together an impressive collection of hibiscus. I think I like Candy Wind the best of those you showed.
I really can't get over the tendrils on Northern Peaks! Thiat is phenomenal...I'm really glad you haven't gotten rid of it as your collection diminishes. Is it fragrant?
When we get over our rainy period, I'll get some pics together & report on the progress of your brugs.

YEs, Patrick, what about that pretty one, pink with the long tendrils, that you are testing for her? How is it doing? (The one I loved so much from her picture?)
Selma, I'm sorry I forgot to report to you...that cutting struggled & eventually died going into the winter. I felt quite cheated & chagrined that it would die, after having the honor of naming it! I have a few other new cultivars I'm trialing for Shirley...coming along, but not ready to bloom yet.
From last fall's cuttings, I had several that rooted, then died after they were potted up. In many cases, I had more than 1 of each and ended up with at least 1 that survived, but there were 4-5 cultivars I lost entirely.
My experience in our part of the country seems to be that cuttings started before the end of September have a better success rate than those started later. Yet there are some that seem bent on survival no matter what...and some that are inclined to be wimpy. Of those that survived, some have jumped into growth & a few are starting to bloom (like my Miami Orange Glow). But others are dawdling along, just now ready to up-pot out of quart containers. There are some brug mysteries that really make me scratch my head.

Thanks everyone. Actually, the yard is looking horrible. The grass is dying and the leaves of the cottonwood trees are falling and making it look even worse. We only have weeds growing in the lawn now. I have to mow them off this week.
Carrie, I think I had one or two hardy hibiscus pictures in there too. I like them too, but mine got really tall this year and in some cases they have fallen over from the weight of the buds and blooms.
I'm looking forward to your pictures, Patrick. I've lost a couple of my brug tags. I don't know how since I attach them to the pot. Evidently our squirrels are quite good at removing those tags. Will wait for blooms to see if I can ID them. Northern Peaks would be a good one for you to grow where it is cooler. She really doesn't like the heat and is growing in shade here.
Thanks Selma. I'm glad you liked the brug/s that Patrick is trialing for me.
Always love the garden tours and this was an exceptional one, Shirley. Was about to ask about the pretty pink blooms but when I enlarged it found it to be Garden Phlox. Loved all your hibiscus. You're growing them all in pots I assume??
Yes, I am growing them in pots, Jarie. In fact, I'm getting ready to go to the nursery to buy more soil. Some are still in need of being potted into bigger pots. It's going to be a lot of fun trying to keep them over the winter. LOL!
All your photos are just beautiful shirley! I bet you really wow all your neighbors there. I have been collecting hibiscus as well and am working on getting all the Cajun Hibiscus series (Dupont Nursery has some of them). Is one of yours gator pride? I thought I saw one the looked like mine. Also is could your 'who am I , hibiscus be 'Allure'? Somethimes they make single as well as double/semi double flowers. One place to post that photo is Dave's garden on the hibiscus forums they really seem to know thier hibiscus over there. You may get a definite answer. I love those orange colored brugs (Pumpkin, and swingtime), those are really orange!!

Lynette, I posted it at DG and no one knew what it was. I'll just enjoy it as a NOid. Yes, one of them is Gator Pride. I will expand more into the Cajuns as I go. 38 or 39 in one year is enough. I do have one duplicate, but a good friend has already asked for the extra one. LOL! Since she cuts my hair...I better give it to her. Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I have tons of pictures that I could post, but I must admit that I can get lazy very easily.
Shirley, I don't know where you get all your energy with your health and all..... just awesome pics, plants and yard.
When you get tired of posting them, just give the URL to your PB album and let the members wander through all 17 pages ( 325 images and 3 slide shows)of it and save your time, fingers and nails.
Thanks everyone. We finally got an inch of rain this morning. It's 81 degrees, but tropical feeling out there.
Here is the link to my Photobucket. There is some junk in there and most pictures are from last year and further back. My brugs just haven't done anything to upload to Photobucket yet. I have hundreds of pictures in my computer yet, but may not stash them in Photobucket.
Shirley: Your flowers are fantastic. As far as I'm concerned there could never be an ugly brug. I love them all. Keep growing these beauties for us to enjoy.

Shirley, loved your PB album. Wow, do you ever have some beautiful flowers. You certainly have a green thumb and I can tell you really enjoy your gardens. Too bad that some things have to be moved inside during your winter months...makes for tons of work, I'm sure. I hope to spend more time looking through again later. for posting the URL.
Shirley, all I can say is, WOW! Northern Peaks is fabulous and your hibiscus are outstanding! I love hibiscus but I can never seem to overwinter them. If they make it through the first winter, then they die the next. Do you overwinter them as you do your brugs?
Your gardens must be astounding with all those hibiscus and brugs around...
Thanks everyone. I am very careful most of the time, in how I shoot that camera. If you could see all the weeds I work around, it would shock you. I will overwinter the hibiscus in the house. I had two in here last winter and got along fine with them. I know that whitefly are a problem for them, but I'm prepared to treat them before they come in and when necessary later. I'll use Merit for that problem. For the mites, I have an arsenol of products at my fingertips. Merit will take care of any aphids, so I guess I'm ready for moving day...but first I want to enjoy them and the other tropicals outside as long as I can. Winter will be long enough when it comes. Thanks again for your nice comments. I'm happy that you looked at my albums. Living in the country doesn't give us many visitors to the yard and most people don't realize I have lots of flowers because they are mostly in the back yard.
shirley i think the variegated hibiscus you have that you cannot remember the name is called general cortigues. i have that one and the older variegated one called snow queen.
