Disappointment in Iowa

Congrats to everyone who has brug blooms now. Today, I have a couple of blooms on Bad Angel and five or six on Rubirosa. One of Brenda's double white brugs has blooms, but they are wildly deformed in this heat. This would be it for me and I'm hoping for many flushes in the fall from most of the 125 brugs.

Oh how beautiful! I have some buds on one of my brugs, but am far away from smelling the fragrance, and enjoying the beauty of those long bell shaped flowers and elegant tendrils. Enjoy what you have, and thank you so much for sharing.

I have 5 on Golden Lady and that's it right now for me too but Sept looks promising.

The house across the street from me burned last night at 4:30 in the morning. My son was just getting home in time to alert the occupants and call 911 and everyone got out of it and the house next door ( owned by a fireman) so something like that puts no blooms into a quick perspective for me.

Not much going at my house either, Shirley. Cypress Gardens has flushed again, and the blooms took on a peachy tint the second day --- do you suppose the excessive heat had anything to do with that? They remained a true white last year. All of my brugs look so bad due to the worms and spider mites. I hope the fall brings them back to their normal state. Oh, and I had one bloom on Sunset - the first one for me.

That is a beautiful color on Rubirosa -- I hope all of yours give you many blooms to share with us this fall.

Rubirosa IS a beauty. I hope she puts on a few really great shows for you when cooler weather comes...along with the 125 other brugs!!

I'm not sure my seedling brugs will bloom this year. My summer has had way too many cool & cloudy days. But I've got my fingers crossed and am looking forward to some good blooms from my other brugs.

Pink Beauty is setting up to put on a show for me. She's in a rather tall pot (maybe 28"-30"), but stands about 8' tall and has sent up a thick basal shoot that's at about a 6' level. So far, the main trunk has had 1 large blossom that lasted several days. Now I can count over 24 buds coming along all at once.

L'Amour has had her first few blooms for me. I really like the flower form and the nearly horizontal bloom position. The blooms have lasted just over a week.

Harlot has just opened her 3rd bud and has some more coming along.

My Harlot will open one of her buds for me before I leave, I think, and so will Mountain Treasure as well as Daydreams. I was going to be so disappointed if they all opened while I was away.

I love rubirosa's color. Shirley you have the magic touch I am just glad that some of mine have leaves and that they are green right now lol!

Ruth ann so sorry to hear about your nieghbor's house. That it terrible. I hope no one or any pets got hurt. Really makes one count thier blessings when stuff like that happens. My mom's house caught fire a few years ago and burned half the house. It was from the old wiring. They had to completely rebuild.

Patrick, if I could I would certainly send you some of our heat :P we got plenty to spare. Can't wait till it cools off. Come on fall....
Did your Wretched Mess ever bloom yet? I just ordered that one too.

Oh my, RA. How fortunate for the occupants that you son came home when he did.

Thanks everyone. Rubirosa is a pretty brug and when she has a big flush, you will see what I mean. Maybe I'm counting my chickens before they hatch. I did lose a limb off her when it stormed a couple of nights ago. It was a wicked storm. A couple of the brugs are nearly naked from the winds stripping the leaves. Bet you can guess where that broken piece is right now...LOL!

My Frosty Pink looks like a naked lady with
too much makeup. Full of blooms and no leaves.
My Carrie special is going into it's fourth flush,
about 8 foot tall and a definite tree. It is amazing,
no leaf drop and green as it can be, loaded with blooms.
Inspiration is flushing again with about 20 blooms but
they are real small blooms must be the heat.

Shirley, down here it's about the same. I got a decent flush from Eternity and MM, but that has been all. It's just so hot and with no rain! I still have my fingers crossed for some. Monika is only about 18" tall. She has not done well at all, I'm saying it's the heat. Hopefully all will do better soon because fall is right around the corner(I can't believe that I just said that)!!

Melanie, the Eternity that I got from you has flushed several times this season-- great brug - I love it. I am not sure about the heat factor ---- last year was so dry and hot here that I don't like to remember it, but the brugs kept on performing. This year, I have noted that many of my brugs have larger leaves than I have ever seen on them before, but they yellow and fall off sooner that the smaller ones. These guys pretty much do as they please, and it usually is confusing to me ----

Melanie, my Monika/Monika Cross is almost 6 feet tall, long trunk with foliage mostly at the top, has set on a few buds, but continues to lose them before they develop which is disappointing. The last ones reached about 3 inches in length but eventually dropped. I'm hoping, too, that it will bloom this fall or winter.
