New to brugs and the forum

Hi everyone. I got my first brug this year, a pale pink one, and I fell in love. I met Jarie through another forum and she told me about you nice folks so I thought I would drop in and check it out. I've only looked around a little so far but there is great information and really beautiful brug pics on here. I'm looking forward to getting more and having different colors. Of all my plants my husband only pays attention to my brug and my 2 datura. He calls them majic flowers, lol.

Kristy, so nice to see you joined us. You'll enjoy this group. There are many talented brug growers here and all of us think of brugs as magic flowers. Your hubby has it right. They sure do get under your skin and one is just not enough. Make yourself at home and join right in.

Thanks for inviting me. I was just looking at your photo gallery. What an amazing array of flowers and wildlife you have! Congradulations on that cute grandbaby also. I keep telling my husband come look at this, it a double or a triple. He says "NO WAY!" and jumps up to come see for himself, lol. It tickles me that he is interested in them. I have a single white datura and a really ruffly yellow that I think is a double but didn't know they had triples. The purple one you showed was stunning. We are enjoying this site entirely too much, lol. Thank goodness they don't sell them around here in a way. I would need a much bigger yard, lol.

Hi Kristy...and welcome! I hope you'll enjoy the forum as much as the rest of us have & you'll continue to get your husband interested. We're always learning something new and at the same time, sharing in each other's major moments in life...both good & bad. Each of us has a sneaky little pair of red horns...we delight in spreading our brug addictions. Be sure to look around at the forum features - lots of "How To" information is offered. Even reading old threads is good...something to help while away the long winter hours.

Thanks for the welcome. We just got our home this February and I don't think my husband realized how much I love plants til I had room to start getting a lot of the things I didn't have room for before. He thinks I've gone plant crazy, lol. The brug and datura are the only things he has paid any attention too but I see him looking at my bed of zinnias out the kitchen window and he says well they are very pretty with all those colors. I will have him hooked before you know it. He is already asking me if can get seeds for the triple purple datura so he is well on the way, lol. I have enjoyed reading the threads and looking at the pics tonight. Got a lot of reading and learning to do.

No brugs in local nurseries? No problem! Check out some of the online brug nurseries...here are 2 of the good ones:

http://www.countrygdn.com/

Some members have other favorites or like to buy on eBay. And most of us do a fair amount of swapping amongst ourselves.

Want even more brug pics to drool over? (can you see my little red horns sticking out?!) The 2 principal brug societies have great brug galleries that are very fun to browse thru. Some of the brugs shown are from European hybridizers and often are not currently available in the U.S. Great to dream over tho.

Welcome Kristy

October 4 2007, 2:19 AM

So glad you joined the group. I am new also, so we shall learn together. Some learn at a faster pace than others though. I love to read, look at photos, and put what I learn from reading into action. Like what type fertilizer is best for the brugs and daturas. Right now, our nights are getting cooler, so time to bring in my one lonely brug into the house. Last winter it spent the season in a corner of the kitchen, and did well. It is dropping the bottom leaves, I suppose because the nights are getting cool now.
Back to reading.....and again....welcome to the group.

Hi Kristy, and welcome!
If your husband likes the Brugs and Daturas best, he may like a few other members of the family as well. Check out Iochroma, Solandra, and Brunfelsia for a start.
And yes, Patrick is completely correct about the little pair of horns. };P
Also, if you haven't had any offers for the triple purple Datura, send me an email, I have a few extra seeds I can send to you. (As well as a double white and Datura stramonium, if you want 'em.)

Hi Kristy, welcome to the forum. What state are you in? My husband is always too busy hunting or fishing to pay attention to any of my plants, except for the brugs. He doesn't help look after them but he sure loves to smell them.

Patrick you really are wicked! I stayed up way past my bedtime looking at all those sights. That Naughty Nick is amazing but they were out of stock. Sooo many pretty ones on each one. Thank you for the sites. I am from Copperas Cove, Texas. Its in zone 8 central Texas area. My husband is into fishing too and the funny thing is he has had sinus problems for years and can't smell a skunk but he can smell the brug. He said whats that sweet smell out here and I almost fell over, lol. I was busy at work today and didn't get to check the forum. Thanks you for all the welcomes. I like this place already. I have to get my list done soon and figure out everything on the site as I explore the functions.

Wow, I didn't know any of those existed either, lol. I think I'm in trouble with all of you enablers. Those are all really neat plants.
