Kristy,

I've used Peters 20-20-20 weekly - all summer. I always water first & then fertilize. And the Brugs seem to enjoy it! I use one tablespoon per gallon of water. I also use Epsom salt at the same ratio - but only once (sometimes twice if I think about it) per month. You'd be surprised how green the Brugs get. I'm sure others have their favorite ways of feeding & will chime in some good ideas for you. I'll probably learn something new too!

Mike

I pot them in a 1/2 manure, 1/2 leaf compost mix. They see to really like it.

Thanks, I have been using bloom booster miracle grow weekly and epsom salt once a month or so. I figured the experts would have something better to share, lol.

Searching the Forum

October 7 2007, 3:29 PM

In past threads, Euan has posted his feeding program that produces the remarkably big beauties in his photos. Ruth Ann has given information on the lasagna bed method that she utilizes. And others have spoken from time to time of how they fertilize. Search around the previous threads/posts a little & you'll pick up some good info.

Speaking of searching...have you tried the SEARCH feature that Bob gave us? Type in a key word and see what pops up. The search is within our forum only, so if you type in EUAN or LASAGNA, the search results may save you from going page by page.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't gotten too explore too much yet mostly looking at pictures and starting to work my way back though the old posts. The people you mentioned I have seen pics of their flowers and they are amazing. I will check out the search feature.

This year due to the heat, I would mix up a batch of fertilizer to use with the siphonject and through the hose. I used it a couple of times a week until Sept. 1 and I've only fertilized once since then. Unlike past years when I ordered Cal Mag or other specific fertilizer, this year I bought mine from WalMart. It was easy and I was there. I hope to get back to Peters 20-20-20 next year. I think it did as well as anything.

I've used different fertilizers over the years& in the past have used epson salts added to the fertilizer. This year I used azealia/camillia fertilizer for acidic plants& used no epson salts at all.The calcuim magnesuim is added in the acidic fertilizer so gave me the same result as if I had used epson salts. My normal program has been interupted though cause fall is arriveing and walmart is not ordering any fertilizer and all they had left was tomato fertilzer. So guess thats what I'm useing till end of season, unless I'm elsewhere that carries what I normally have been useing.I also top dress with compost regularly.I've also watered with compost tea along with regular fertileing& top dressing with compost(2004)and had good results. My issue with that was keeping enough compost tea brewing& that was when I had 10 brugs not 24.the problem increased when tried useing a 55 gallon can instead of the six 5 gallon buckets, but adding air pump to can helped the brew brew faster, but did not help in distribution (maybe if had a wagon to hook on mower to 'ride N feed')But I also have a problem keeping enough compost for my use...seems I'm always waiting for more to be ready...like now.

And in a way.I do foliar feed.I do spray the whole plant down when fertilizeing, but when they are smaller do use spray bottle.

Next year I'm going to do beer fertilizer like I use on my epis.

1 12 oz beer
1 c epson salt
1/2 cup amonia
1/2 c molasses
2 cup water
3 tablespoons fertilizer

this mixed in gallon jug.
take 1 Tbs add to gallon of water or 55 TBS to hose end feeder for 15 minutes.

I brought up brugmansias on the epi forum and found 3 who use on their brugs as well.Cheryl did a test one year and did the brugs in front yard but not the ones in back yard. Her test inspired me to try it for a year.I have used it on Bolero x Apricot Queen. some of it was durring the month I fertilized it daily. As I ran my self out fertilizer and already had the beer fertilizer mixed. It has been my cutting from fall that has grown the most. Its now 6 ft tall, where my other cuttings are 3 ft tall or are slightly almost to 4 ft.
