It's a double! I can't tell what color it will be and I hope it stays warm enough for it to open so I at least have an idea of the color. Our temps have dropped over 40 degrees since yesterday so I guess the cold will have an effect on the color but it's a double! Woohoo. I'm glad that it bloomed because that's one of the plants I was going to let die over the winter. It will definitely be dug up and brought in now Can you tell that I don't get many doubles? lol
Karyn
Congrats, Karyn! I hope it develops a color, but even a double white is nice. I think many of us are at that "yea, it's a double!" phase.
Of the 66 seedlings I'm growing out for Seed Sprout, the 1rst one has just opened a bloom. It took forever in this cool & wet season, & when I gently squeezed the sides of the unfurled bud, it felt like another corolla was inside. But it turned out to be a single white. The stamens are large and were closely clustered - that's what I felt thru the corolla. Under current growing conditions, the bloom may not be at all representative of what it will do in the future. It is currently smallish & has nice upturned tendrils. It just opened yesterday, so I can't rule out the possibility that it'll flush with color, but I'm thinking it will stay white.
I'm glad your's revealed itself to be a double in time for you to save it! Now you'll be able to evaluate it next year when it blooms under normal conditions.

Congrats Karen. So far so good.. Even if it was white- who cares! I happen to love the whites and creams because I love night gardens and there is no better flower for a night garden, than a nice white double brug that glows and smells delicious.

It's a Hawaiian Dbl White x L'Amour. I only had one other double from those seeds and it was an off white. Very pretty but the inner skirt didn't drop well on any of the blooms. That was the plant that Kyle killed with chocolate milk last winter:(
If I were 10 years younger I think it would be a lot easier. I don't remember all of this with my older kids. Either that or maybe it's a case of selective memory. lol

I'm back. A touch of a stomach bug or something I ate had me praying to the porcelain god for most of yesterday evening. The bloom is open and even though it is white it's very pretty, nice shape and it's huge. From the base to the lowest skirt is 13"! The color is also a bit different. It's kind of green though I think it might still get whiter. The scent is kind of musky spicy, very nice.

Hi Karyn: Congrats on a lovely bloom. What a rush it must be to actually see your very own brug off-spring bloom and a double, too! Really enjoy the pictures. Hope you are feeling better, now. That "praying" symptom can sure run a person's day!! lol. Gloria
Dig that baby up, Karen, and protect her for the winter. Does she have a name yet?? She's a beauty and worth a spot in the garden next year. Good luck with her and glad to hear you're feeling better.
o0o0ohh! It's puurrrty :D I hope you are feeling better, no fun to bow to the porcelain king. Hey, maybe you are PG? Maybe Kyle wants a baby sister/brother LOL!!! (running to hide now as karyn screams, Nooooo0o0o)
Lenette don't you dare say that!!!!!!! It was bad enough being 42 and pg. I really couldn't imagine being almost 45 and pg again. Besides that there'd be a Dr with a lot of explaining to do. lol Three kids is definitely enough, thank you!

Congratulations Karyn, It is such a thrill seeing one of our seedlins burst into bloom. I have quit a few that are about ready to bloom, but like you our temps. have dropped alot so I am not seeing much color now.
Hi Karyn, I tried to email you this am, but couldn't remember my login (getting old?? or too many different ones), but that is just simply beautiful, gorgeous, stupendous, etc, but lovely by any other name! More pics please. Hope you are feeling better.
Karyn, just think about the possibilities though... in a few years you could have another who wants to play in the dirt (inside) and pluck name tags, and give your Brugs the extra calcium they need to grow up big and strong...
Anyway, I'm glad it wasn't anything serious and that you're feeling better, and that Brug's beautiful!!! I love the shape on it, and the color too.
