Hello everyone: I know this may be old hat to some of you, but I'm soo excited just need to share. I am looking at a huge bud hanging on a cutting that was rooted last Feb. and it is still sitting in its (lo-rent) cut-off 1/2 gal plastic jug bottom! It's a Super Nova and I think the bloom is going to be bigger than the entire plant. I was getting set to transplant to a larger pot, but I think I'll wait until the bloom is gone, what do you think? This is the first to bloom of all my cuttings that I rooted last year. This novice is stilled awed thinking of those "sticks" and now looking to see a huge flower ... I know, I've got it bad, but I don't want to be cured! Thanks for listening. Gloria
Gloria, first of all on your first bloom. It really is exciting!! But.....Super Nova is probably not a good one to have in a small jug trying to bloom. The blooms on Super Nova can sometimes be 16-20 inches long, HUGE,and beautiful, too, I might add. Even putting it in the ground wouldn't help much at this stage because it's still going to touch the ground. About the only thing you can do to make sure this bloom "shines" is to put it atop something so the bloom can hang down freely then hope it gets some growth before it blooms again. I had to wait several flushes before they hung freely on my plant but Super Nova is now one of my favorites
This is only the beginning of sheer delight with your new addiction. I'm heading out right now to see what brugs are blooming this morning...it's become a daily ritual.

Old hat? Not at all, nothing compares to the first flower, imho. Even the first of the season or the first for a particular Brug.
(The first flower on our first Brug was the hooker, after that I knew I was doomed, lol!)

Yes, it seems like no matter how many brugs may be blooming, if you suddenly discover a bud has opened on a cutting you've grown nearly a year, it's very exciting. Mtn. Treasure did this to me about a week ago. The bloom is pale this time of year, but it was still exciting to find it open.

I remember my first bloom. What a thrill. It's still exciting for me to see the first blooms right through to the last. It's fun to collect pollen or make a good pollination. I enjoy taking cuttings to root or growing from seed. This is one I grew from seed this year. I'm getting a little excited about seeing this bloom open. The buds on this one surprised me. I would never have thought they could hold a double.
Can't wait to see if it will be white or color up.
I can't wait to see pics of it fully open. What lovely tendrils it has. I have one about to open also. Its my 3rd bloom but its like waiting on a baby to take its first steps every time. So cool to watch them.

Gloria,
Congrats on your super nova bloom. I have that one too. It took a year for mine to bloom. The hummingbird moths seem to love that one.
Shirley,
I agree they look really skinny to hold doubles! So its a double? WOw.Nice..
I bet you snuck in a peak lol. *Shirley is known for her nice twangers/tendrils :D * Luminosa cross...maybe it will be double yellow !!
We need more double yellows.
Jarie: Thanks for the advice. The jug Super Nova is in is rather large, but I took your suggestion and set it on a higher surface so nothing is touching the ground. SN itself is good and tall, but am staking it anyway.
Shirley: I count myself lucky to root a cutting, can't imagine how some of you can even "create" your own plant. Boggles the mind! What a thrill that must be to grow one from your own seed. Someday I'll have to try that, but for now happy to root!!
I have a small super nova rooting in a jar of water and it has a tiny flower bud forming. This baby can't wait to show me what shes got so I went and got her a special pot and tall stand that it sits down in to get it up off the ground so the blooms I anticipate next year won't hit the ground. Thanks Jarie. All my little babies are surprising me daily it seems.

WOW! This must be my week for Brugs! Finally! :0) I think Super Nova's bud has stimulated other rooted cuttings! The Island Girl cutting, which has grown really tall has a teeny tiny bud on it. It is so small not sure if it will mature but at least she's trying. BTW the S Nova bud is HUGE, but still green and tightly closed like a pod, so I guess it won't open for awhile, but should be a big bloom when it does. Some days Life is REALLY Double Good. No?
Gloria, it's great to hear that brugs in some places are putting on their last hurrah. As for Super Nova, I have several buds on mine with 9" calyxes while most of my others ready to bloom (Snow Cone, Noid White & Cotton Candy) are only about 5-6". Wait til you see how long SN is once fully opened! IT'S ONE LONG SUCKER.
