Speaking of deformed doubles

One of my older Creamsickles has been putting out deformed blooms all year. Either the inner skirt hasn't dropped or the blooms have been single. The previous flush had all single blooms. I think this last one is it's 4th flush. One of cuttings that I'd taken last year has had perfectly normal flowers all season.

Strange little guys, aren't they? I have had deformed blooms for the very first time this year.

My Creamsickle (new this year) hasn't grown very much and has looked pitiful all summer. So much so that I've prayer it would hang in there...and it has. Most of the blooms, and there were many, weren't very pretty. Most didn't open the second skirt. Now that it's cooled off and I've fed it extra well the past few weeks, it's perking up, adding tons of new leaves, although, they are very small. I'm waiting to see how the new blooms will perform. I think Creamsickle has the smallest leaves of any of my brugs.

I think a lot of brugs have acted strange this year because of the many changes in the weather. I have New Orleans Lady in bloom right now with more than half of the blooms being single and she is as white as snow until about the last day or two of the bloom's life. I think for the most part we can write this year off and hope that Mother Nature is better to us next year.

I think you are right, Shirley, and we can also pray this is not a pattern for MN.

LOL MN is quite an independent. Whatever her whim, we must deal with it!! and that can be trying when growing brugs.

I'm starting to fear that we are going to have a weather repeat next year. Once again we are having an unusually warm fall. It's back near 80 here. Last year we were warm until Jan then had the coldest spring on record. I hope this doesn't happen again. The Creamsickle that's producing the deformed blooms has large leaves and the cutting that has been blooming normally has smallish foliage. I hadn't even thought about that. The cutting hasn't put out many flowers at a time but they've been very pretty and have lasted for a long time. The pics are reversed but they've started out bright white and develop the peach tint after 2 or 3 days. It's hard to believe that they are the same plant, in the same soil and very similar conditions, sun, water, etc.

My creamsickle cutting has not grown very much. It's likely to go in a pot and go in GH.It does have smaller leaves than everyone else in yard.It looks nice and green with no 'y'.Poor monika has buds on every branch and they are all laying over. Its stems are still skinny.2 of the blooms are partially pushed out.least the weather is kinda better...Its misting rain off and on and muggy, but least the weather won't cook the plant.I really did like those 3 days of morning temps in the 50s.It actually felt GOOD.I don't want to RUSH winter, but would like to feel some fall temps.
