This is a brug grown from seed sent to me last year from Germany. The cross was labeled Luminosa x Creamsickle or Charleston. I believe after seeing the bloom that it was crossed with Charleston pollen. What struck me funny was the skinny little buds. I'll try to put the pictures in order. Tell me what you think, good or bad.
Next it begins to come out of the calyx.
Now, I know it will be at least a double.
Weather problems meant the pot had to come into the family room. The wind was horrible and there was a pounding rain.
Then tonight, some time between 5 and 7, it decided to open. Up to that point, it was still yellow with only one little splash of white on it.
I think it is beautiful. The tendrils are great! I don't have any doubles yet but will by next year I hope.I am really brave going from one plant to starting cuttings that I was lucky enough to get recently to wanting to breed my own plants after looking at all the ones on here, lol. I best get to studying on how to do that.

Thanks everyone. I won't be surprised if it looks a little different in the morning. I think I took pictures before it was completely open, especially the bloom toward the back or right.
Gosh shirley those are really pretty. I love how the top skirt recurves up and the tendrils go up. Whereas the bottom tendrils sort of point downward. Lots of tendril action goin on there lol. I wonder if she will darken up any? I like whites and creams though, and guess you could always throw some true yellow pollen on her too? Does she have a fragrance yet? I'm sooo amazed that that huge flower came from that thin little bud!

Karyn, that is what amazed me. I would never in a million years have thought those buds would have a double in them.
Thanks everyone. It smelled so good in here last night. I would love to know how to duplicate that smell in a candle oil or spray. She is still white this morning. I don't expect to see any color change now unless it comes at the end of the few days of each bloom's life. Charleston changes to a light peach at the end, so this one could too.
Chiming in late but that is ONE BEAUTIFUL DOUBLE, Shirley. Loved your progression photography. Must have been a real shock seeing that beautiful double come from a relatively small bud. Will be interesting to see if it gets some "peachy" qualities in a day or two. Have you considered a name for her yet?
Thanks to you all. I can always count on you to make me feel good.
Jarie, I won't name her until I talk with Monika about registering her if she is a keeper and we won't know that until she blooms outside next year.
If you could see my other brugs right now, it would make you sick. Hundreds of blooms are shot from the high winds. That many more nearly open buds are ruined. The tendrils are burned right off of the blooms. It makes me sick because my yard should have been awesome this week and a final big show for the year, but not now. Now it is clean up time, but it's too windy to go out there. The wind has been blowing for about 48 hours. 45 mph winds were predicted.
Oh, Shirley, I'm so sorry. What a terrible way to end the season. You've had pretty nice weather up til now and of course, the brugs wanted to put on one last show for the season, and now this. I sure hope you don't have any damage. Take your time on the cleanup. Maybe you'll get a few good days for that.
Iam so sorry about the rest of the mess, but your double white is soooo breathtaking! Words cannot explain how ultra beautiful she is. Why on earth would she NOT be a keeper??
Sorry about your yard Shirley. I know how you feel, we had gusts up to 65mph here yesterday.
I sure like the long tendrils. I'm really looking forward to seeing it's summertime blooms next year. Please keep us posted!
Tom, I just heard that Washington got hit really hard. I hope the damage was minimal to non-existant. It's to bad these things have to happen, but now I'll get in gear and get the yard cleaned up for winter.
I took one last picture to post. Since I noticed that I hadn't taken a picture of the whole thing to post, I took this one tonight. For a seedling, it is a tall one. My family room ceilings are 10 ft. tall. The plant is only in a three gallon pot, so that would take a foot off the actual height of the plant. It had seventeen buds. I knocked one off today trying to pull a dead leaf off. Not bad for a new seedling. Anyway, this one will be the last one I post. Oh...the tendrils are right at 2-1/2 inches. That is the only thing I have measured. Will wait for spring.
She's beautiful. I'm so sorry to hear about the damage. At least it's the end of the season and the brugs are almost ready for their winter nap anyway.

What a beautiful brug, Shirley - I am really hopeful she is a keeper, and will get a name to match her beauty. about the rest of your great brugs. Hopefully, this will be the last disappointment for you this year.
Wow, Shirley!
She's a stunning beauty. I'm inspired to find some fitting names you might propose to Monika.
I'm sorry to hear your winds were more destructive than mine (it was a little less severe here than up in Tom's area). I had a few potted brugs that blew over, without major damage. But I cut the leaves off most of my brugs prior to the storm & they withstood the wind fine.
Our storms aren't over yet. There was quite a bit of wind again today, altho not nearly as strong. Tonight it is raining hard & some areas are reporting the ground covered by hail, as well as thunderstorms. Looks like we're in for quite an El Nina winter.

Shirley, she continues to impress ...what beautiful tendrils and so many of them twirling every which way. I'm sure you'll hate to see those blooms fade. Maybe they'll last a while longer for you.
To be honest, I'm getting sick of picking up leaves from the floor. I'm ready to take her to the garage for the winter after I cut one trunk for cuttings for the people I'll have trial her. I'll keep the top of that trunk and re-root it. Guess I better go get started. Have a great day, everyone.
Thanks Cindy. Monika thinks it will remain white. That is okay. For years we haven't had a huge choice when it comes to pure whites. At least this will add one more to the short list of white doubles.
