Changes are being made around our house in preparation for some new brugs. Despite my resolve to not add anymore brugs to my collection, a few came along that I just couldn't resist..........so, this afternoon my DH willing removed a bouganvilla bush that he was CONSTANTLY having to trim and since they have very sharp thorns, he's happy it's gone.
This space should make room for at least three newbie brugs. We'll have to extend the ground sprinkler so they get plenty of water. Just spent $459.00 a couple of weeks ago adding some new sprinkler heads and rerouting some lines. The original layout didn't water things very well since all of my plants have grown. When it was installed there was nothing on the property but a little grass. WELL, you can imagine what I've done to the yard since moving in 6 years ago....and I'm still not finished!
Good thing that Ray has fallen in love with brugs just as much as me. He commented a little while ago about how the brugs fill the evening air with their beautiful aroma. He's hooked, too, thank goodness. The shed should help shade them a bit from the hot afternoon sun.
You are lucky. My DH isn't able to help due to health issues that began several years ago. At least he allows me to hire help, but that isn't always timely. LOL! I generally want things done yesterday.
I have to rely on "outside help", also, but I really do not mind as I am the only one in charge then ---- . It is painful to have to wait sometimes when I want it done NOW, but I have learned to cope. I am relocating a couple of rose bushes that have too much shade now that my trees are so large, so I will have room for several more inground brugs next Spring.
Jarie I'm glad he likes brugs too. I'm still holding my DH to his promise to make me a new brug bed. Its just keeping him home from fishing on the weekend thats the problem. I need to find a side job I can do so I can hire some yard help. I want my beds done too and can't do it til I heal fully. Looks like that will be a great spot for them. Good luck!
I can just picture a very lush 'Xena' in the far back on the right! lol! And 'Maya' a little to the left of her - centered of course! Wow! It's happening for you - I'm very happy DH is making that bed for you. I know you were concerned about where you were going to put the new ones! See - it worked out perfectly! Any future brugs you may receive in the mail should now have a place in that new bed!
I'll be prepareing a new bed this winter. We've added a fence down property beside garage cause my BIL dogs and my dog sometimes have issues& I'm tired of cleaning new cuts.Rosa Turam pair will go in ground and i'm relocateing Jamicia yellow since its growing better...and she's NOW decided she'll start giving buds.Maybe i'll get lucky and they'll hold when dig her and move-r to GH.
I'm sure it will be gorgeous. You'll have to post another pic once they are planted. If my DH didn't do most of the heavy work all my plants would be dead! lol

I really hadn't planned to add any, or at least very few, new brugs this year because my yard is almost to capacity but some offers came along that just couldn't be passed up. Thank goodness I have help. Will probably be a while before the planting begins but will share pics when it's done and blooming.
Jarie, every year you will have to go through this. There is always a new brug that I want to try. That means something has to go. It's so hard when everything is so pretty. This year, I had a lot of deformed brugs so those weren't hard to let go. Anything good went to my niece, so if I decide I want a start again, I know where to go. I'm going to have more doubles than singles next year. I don't think I like that. Singles are so showy. Oh well...it will be a wait and see what happens when the time comes. I wish I had your DH for a day. I'm needing a bed made for grasses. I even have the tiller, but it's too hard for me to do. My yard man is going to end up hating me and will quit one day. LOL!
Golly, Shirley, hope your yard man doesn't decide to quit. I'd offer the services of "my yard man" if we lived closer.
I agree with the singles vs the doubles. Don't get me wrong, the doubles are very pretty but I think, too, that the singles stand out moreso. A couple of Noid Whites, Snow Cone, Charles Grimaldi, Adora and Ecuador Pink are my favorites. I do need a rich pink single.
I'm hoping that my doubles look better this fall and winter....most looked awful this summer. Creamsickle and Tiara are setting on buds. Pink PerfeKtion is blooming now and doesn't look any better than it did during the summer, actually, it's lighter than it was in the summer. I'm still not sure how this one ever got registered when I see some of the critiquing of some of the new ones posted here. It's form definitely leaves a lot to be desired, at least for me. Anyone having good results with PP??

Pink Perfektion for me was okay blooming in the house after our first frost, but that was the only time it looked like anything. Outside, every bloom was always deformed. That brug probably isn't registered, only named. It's an Anne Kirshner Abel brug that was purchased for my birthday several years go. I had to be nice about it for a while, but now I call it compost material. I would get rid of it and grow something pretty, Jarie. It will never make you totally happy. JMO
Thats so sad looking. I would like to try a double someday since I don't have one but I guess like you say its hard to beat the show of a single in full bloom. I hope it gets better for you Jarie. Is that maybe one bred for cooler weather climates I wonder?
