Easy & Difficult Brugs?

Sorry if this has been done many times and I've just not gone back far enough in the posts. As a newbie to the World of Brugs, I'm beginning to realize that some do not seem to be programed to survive as strongly as others! Since I'm trying to put together a nice variety of Brugs, wondering if there is a list of Brugs that are readily grown and those that may need a bit more encouragment. I got hooked on Brugs when someone kindly sent me a cutting of Charles Grimaldi (could be a Dr. Suess)and this Brug never stops! Are there others in different colors like him?

Gloria
I am going to be cutting my Strawberry Creme soon and can send you cuttings for postage. Mine towers over my roofline and seems to be constantly in bloom. This one has never had bug problems either. LMK if you would like some cuttings. I will be doing more cuttings of other brugs once I can get out in the yard to see what I can cut on. Will list those soon

I think the variegated's are harder to over winter.I've not had success wintering cuttings from those for 2 seasons and am going to try again.I didn't have luck with HHG either, but it had a hard start as it arrived durring hurricane Rita and sat in a box amoung PO for 21 days before I got it.When I moved from NE Tx to SE TX my cutting of Supernova perished,But hopeing was cause I may have planted it too soon in ground. My cutting of it this year I had to remove from ground& put in pot& its still recovering.Supernova is one of my favorites. It's what got my addiction started (besides the dantras...lol)

I've found that most US brugs are very similar in their ability to survive winters in my garage, so they should do well in your area outside. If it gets cold enough to frost, you might lose leaves, but they should come back okay. If the trunks freeze, the plants should still come back from the roots. As for finding plants that are similar to Charles Grimaldi or Dr. Suess and the way they grow and bloom....I would say that Butterfly is a super pink brug that blooms its heart out and smells like baby powder. Golden Lady is a wonderful double cream color that smells awesome and blooms like crazy. A nice versicolor orange or peach would make anyone happy with tons of heavy flushes and fragrance that can't be beat. Versicolors do bloom all at once, for the most part, and then will repeat bloom throughout the year. There are just lots and lots of beautiful blooms out there and I would suggest you go to one of the brug sites and look at their galleries to get an idea of what brugmansia you want to grow. Just do a search for BGI or ABADS to find them. Just remember than some are not in the US yet. Oh...I have to say that since I've grown Rothkirch, it is at the top of my list for looks, growth, and fragrance and rarely has a bug problem.

So far the only one that I've really had problems with is the Sanguinea. Up until this past summer it's foliage was fine but no flowers. This summer even the foliage looked terrible. Snowbank and Miner's Claim have turned out to be very slow growers but Maya grows fine for me. I'm starting to collect some more doubles and I'll see how they do.
