New Orleans Lady

Does anyone here grow this? I saw a pic on ebay and it showed a white, a pink, and a peach color bloom and it looked like they were all on the same plant. Is this true? My husband saw it and wants one but I wanted to see if anyone grew it and how they liked it first. I do believe I have gotten him addicted. He just saw his first pics of whole brug plants with huge flushes of flowers and now he is helping me plan where all we are going to put them in the yard, hehe. Looks like I'll be getting my beds I wanted now. He said no wonder you went so crazy over these things. He already liked my one but it has never had more than one or two open buds at a time.

I grew it, but it bloomed late and never had color at all for me. I had a lot of single blooms on mine, but again, it could be weather related.

I will wait and see what other things I hear about it then before I let him get it. Its the first one he wanted for himself. I would hate for it to be a disapointment to him. He wants the 3 colors all at the same time on one plant, lol.

How exciting that you now have a "partner in crime", Kristy. Makes it more fun that way and definitely the help comes in pretty handy. Have fun laying out your new brug gardens.

As for New Orleans Lady, I've never grown her but may be getting one of later. Not sure I like what I hear about her, though.

Three colours all at one time only means that you have flowers in 3 different stages of age/opening. Once each bloom is mature, they are all the same colour so be sure your hubby realizes that.

I have grown this one for two years now. Especially in cool weather in the Spring and again in the Fall, it will bloom out white, turn peach and then orange. It is really a gorgeous brug. and where I live is really a strong grower.

I'm glad to hear this Patricia, because I liked this brug from the first time I saw it and hope that next year it will bloom correctly for me. We had a bad summer this year and several of the doubles didn't bloom right. Next year will be the year that I have to toss them if they don't do well and move on to the next ones.

I bought NOL on ebay this year - when it arrived it did not look all that healthy and it never did grow well and then all of a sudden it shriveled up and died on me. I wanted this one so bad so today ordered one from seedsprout. Hoping for better luck with it! Will baby it this winter!!!

I got a NOL on Ebay a couple weeks ago. It's a rooted cutting, not the nicest one I've ever received but it is alive and wasn't expensive. I'll see how it does over the winter and hopefully it will bloom next year.

Glad to hear it does well for some of you. I explained to him that it was a color change on each one as it matures. The one I have now does that but he has never seen it with more than 2 flowers open I guess. I will show him some others this weekend and see if I can make him fall in love with Naughty Nick, lol. I don't think its in stock anywhere right now anyway but that its one I am determined to have someday. Let me know how you others with the new plants do for you.

I'm with Patricia, she is a beauty and the fragrance is wonderful. All my blooms have been doubles and had color to them. I am awaiting a small flush at the moment. There was no question this one was coming inside for overwintering. I even have a pod coming on mine. It's been awhile since I have been here so I can't remember how to post a photo. Will have to take a few mins. out soon to figure it out again.

I took a look at my NOL this morning and saw that the base of the stem was soft so I trashed it. I didn't even bother to try to salvage a cutting from it. The stem looked fine the other day. Even though it hadn't started putting out any growth I didn't think that it was rotting from the bottom up. I'm certainly glad that I didn't pay very much for it but it's still a bummer. I was really looking forward to seeing blooms from that one next year

Karyn, sorry about your loss. New Orleans Lady is one I'd like to get one day myself. I'm really beginning to realize that some brugs just don't root well in water. They may take longer to root but don't rot as easily when started in soil.

Jarie the NOL I bought was a rooted plant. It had an almost nonexistant root system when I received it but I figured it would do better in soil. I purchased it along with a few others and probably should have kept a closer eye on it but with moving all my plants I kind of forgot. I'll probably buy another but I'll wait until spring when I have more room and can keep it outside.

That sounds like the NOL I bought-very few roots and weak-perhaps the same seller on ebay? I am not buying any more from ebay unless I personally know them and have had good plants from them in the past. I have lost way too many from ebay sellers. I am looking forward to my NOL from Seedsprout--I know it will be healthy.

I got my NOL from seedsprout and it grows like mad. Every cutting I've taken from it rooted right up without any problems. They must of been really bad cuttings to not be robust growers. Even the seedlings I have from NOL are strong growers, of course they are crossed with something else but they sure are taking after NOL in the growth dept. lol.

I decide to email the seller about my problem with the NOL he sent. He responded almost immediately and is sending a replacement. I'm happy about that

I'm glad you are getting a replacement. Maybe the weather this year messed up some people's blooms. My husband still wants this one but I am wondering if it would be better to try and wait for spring. Still working on the lighting situation in the garage so I need to get that set up before I get it. Right now everything that needs a good bit of light will be in my dining room. Thats the only room that gets a good bit of natural light.

I always have a hard time with rooting cuttings once our cool nights set it. It just seems like even with a propagating mat under them they are so suseptible to rot.
