Some Advice, Please ...

I've gotten some cuttings of Maya from a couple of generous Bruggers. One is in the Bubbler, another is potted in a 32 oz. plastic cup with drainage, and one is lying on soil ("log"/horizontal method.) None of them has done anything for 2 weeks. They don't look shriveled or soft, but no action at all. Do the vargated Brugs behave differently from the nonvar.? I'm worried about leaving one in water too long since I've been having really bad luck this year with water rooting ;0( Any tips on how to stimulate rooting? I so don't want to lose these ... Maya is one of those on my wish list!!! Other cuttings (not Maya)that are potted as well as those that are horizontal are sprouting leaves. Maya has me worried.

Hey Gloria, I've never had Maya before, but I had know trouble rooting Sunset in water. I used the double cellophane method (only because they were fresh cuttings, to prevent excess evaporation) & changed the water close to every day. But again, I don't have any experience with other variegates.

Variegated plants seem to grow and root slower. They really root faster and better in the warmth of the summer with the better sunlight available. I don't tend to water-root these, I plant them in a pot of damp soil and tent the hole thing in a plastic bag and leave it out of direct sun for about a month.

John, I have been told that Maya and Sunset are the same brug. I have one that rooted easily for me here in Texas, so Ruth Ann, maybe the heat was the saving factor. I rooted it in soil.

I had no trouble rooting Sunset/Maya cuttings in water (indoors). The 2 cuttings were shorter trunks I removed from the multi-trunked mother plant around the 1rst of September. I potted one and the other (2' tall) is still in a jar of water, here in my computer room. It has plenty of roots & I need to get it potted up.

Jamie, another variegated, has rooted easily in water for me.
