Talked to the curator today...

I got ahold of the curator at Strybing today. I have to call back on Saturday to talk to the horticulturist takes care of the brugs. Apparently he's testing his own x flavas this year, at least Don Mahoney said he was crossing arboreas with colored brugs so I assume that's what they are. They are definitely the most virus-aware "nursery" I've spoken with thus far, many nurseries here in Oregon carry sangs but don't even realize heat brings out the virus(-es?). So that sounds really promising for getting clean cuttings... And it sounds like I should be able to get clones of the vulcanicola clone, Tom. I may have to make a trip back to San Fran to get them though. I'm really excited to hear about more people breeding flavas, that's good news for those of us who've been ogling them from across the big pond. I should have pics ready to post tomorrow...

I talked to Illie Gacheu, the brug guy @ Strybing. Unfortunately it's going to be at least a couple of months until he knows if he has any clean stock of vulcanicolas, etc. He may have seeds as well, but they apparently have a bit of a problem with squirrels stealing the pods. He is testing a couple of x flavas of his own though... Guess we'll have to wait & see how things go...or buy one on eBay for $300
