Does it matter which type of light you use to start seedlings? Specifically sang & arborea. Thanks in advance.

I use fluorescent lights. In addition to the fluorescent lights' broader spectrum of light that Allison mentioned, incandescent lights might expose seedlings to quite a bit of heat.

I use flourescents too. Seedlings care most about intensity. For the same wattage, cool-whites will grow seedlings as fast or faster than any other flourescent bulb because of their higher intensity with lower heat.

Now to find a plug-in flourescent...

April 9 2008, 5:51 PM

Thanks for the help! Any ideas on where one might find a flourescent that can be plugged into a wall plug-in? I just don't like loose wires if I can help it, & am not quite ready to remodel the shed just yet...

Home Depot $8 cheapies are ready to plug in. The cool-white Alto bulbs are one of the highest output, great for seedlings.
