Outdoor Sangs

I have 3 sangs that spent the winter outdoors. The (supposed) red one is planted in the ground and the 2 orange ones are in pots. One of those oranges kept blowing over, so I finally left it lying on the ground all winter (the potful of emerging leaves are hostas)...gotta get it standing upright again. I took these pics to show the leaf sprouts that are emerging on the sangs.

In the last pic I circled a couple of basal shoots emerging from the roots.

They look great, Patrick!

How thick are those trunks now? They look fairly large. Now these got snowed on for a few days, didn't they? I think I'm gonna try setting some out this fall & see how they do here. We mostly only get rain & frost in the winter, snow once or twice & it doesn't stick. These are the ones you grew from seed, right? They seem to really like whatever you're doing for them!

John, the inground red sang is planted on a sandy berm, just inside the drip line of one of my fir trees. The 2 potted orange sangs are back closer to the trunk of my other, neighboring fir tree. Those 2 were sheltered from any snow that fell, but the red sang picked up a little. It kept its leaves until at least the middle of January, when our coldest weather hit for a few days.

The trunks probably look bigger than they are - I'd guess they are about 2.5" diameter, maybe a bit larger. And yes, these I grew from seeds...guess they're 3 years old now. I would like to get the 2 orange ones in the ground, but don't have really good permanent spots for them. I will probably stake them up this year so they don't blow over so easily.

I should also start considering where I'm going to place my 6 Stybring621 hybrid seedlings this year.
