Ulrike & Hans-Georg Preissel, in their book "Brugmansia and Datura", have one of the Purace form vulcanicolas, which is most different from sanguinea and likely most "pure". It is also from where vulcanicola gets it's name, since Mt. Purace is a volcano.

Thank you Tom for this piece of information. I know of four vulcanicola-hybrids obtainable here in Europe and of course wonder which one of these that have an appearance close to the original.
I have ordered the book by Preissel and will study the photos.

European vulcanicolas...

Hello Jorr,

I'm a huge enthusiast of this group of brugs, too. Which vulcanicola varieties do you have there?

Hello Jorr, it looks like you are new to our forum, so WELCOME! Where in Europe do you live?

Here in the U.S. we've been very envious of the brug cultivars that are available in Europe. Importing them is difficult, so we've been busy creating better cultivars from those we do have available. We're getting some great ones...but still look longingly at those available in Europe.

I hope we'll hear from you often. It would be great to hear of your experiences growing brugs there.

Vulcanicola s in Europe

April 17 2008, 5:00 PM

B. vulcanicola-Hybrid Pink Ice
B. vulcanicola-Hybrid Mystic Fire
B. vulcanicola-Hybrid Roter Vulcan
B. vulcanicola-Hybrid Rosa Lila

These are the Vulcanicola-hybrids I have found so far.
They are in ABADS registrationlist.
I think there are more in Europe, we will see.

I live on the westcoast of Sweden.
I have seen the pictures on ABADS homepage and I
think you have as good Brugs in USA as we have in Europe,
maybe better. We have great problems getting plantmaterial
from your side of the Atlantic, as I understand you have to get from our side.
I am olso into Hoyas and a lot of those who are interested i Hoyas are
trading cuttings over this tiny planet.
I have written in the exchange list topic too.

Welcome!

Yeah, welcome to the Forum, Jorr!
The only named vulc hybrid I've heard of other than those is Vulcanstaub, bred at Herrenhauser Garten I believe. I haven't seen anyone selling it, but then I'm probably on the wrong side of the big pond to find it. These are definitely some of the ones we don't have much of anything like over here. It's taken me 2 years to find the only 'Rosa Lila' there is on this side of the ocean, as far as I know. We do have one we refer fondly to as "Strybing #621", a pink vulc hybrid.
I didn't realize that you have trouble getting U.S. plant materials over there. I had thought it was only a problem coming over here from other countries. Do you have to have phytosanitary certification & all that?
That's quite the exchange list you've got!

Jorr those great vulcanicola photos at ABADS are (unfortuneately for us) all from your side of the pond. We have several European members who contribute photos.
Have you been to both Gommer's web site & to Anne Kirchner-Abel's?

Yeah, Gommers has a lot of beautifur brugs. He is cheap too. Ann Kirchner- Abel is a bit more expensive, but she has vulcanicola- hybrids. One from Herrenhaser Garten and some made by herself.
She doesnt have those hybrids in her list but if you press the button for onlineshop there are four different hybrids. Vaya con Dios.
