Question about 'Lilac' flavas

I have seen x flava 'Lilac' listed as 'Lilac 1', I think I've also seen a 'Lilac 2' somewhere... Is there more than one 'Lilac'? Also, as far as having to manually open the calyx at "the right time", is that time when the developing flower begins to press against the tip of the calyx & build up pressure?
