I know this is a Datura and not a Brug, but I wanted to share this pic anyway from our previous discussion. And there is no Datura forum

Pam, allow this one flower to set seed, cut off all the other seed pods and it will flower for you until the cool weather hits in the fall. Save your seeds, plant them (indoors) 8 weeks before your last frost date next spring and you will be good to go for another year. )

Great pics, Pam. I like the water drops all over the first one. Your plant looks very happy & you have a pretty color scheme going in the mixed planter. And not to worry about discussing daturas here...we're happy to talk about most brug relatives and nobody ever got upset if we went totally off topic.

RA, I have yet to get a double/triple datura to set seeds in my climate...even when I tried to play pollinator.

I don't get nearly as many seed pods on the doubles but I do get them. I have had babies now for 3 years from one pod I collected 5 years ago. ( I don't start some every year).

Ruth Ann,

Quote:

So I should leave the flower alone and try and get seed from it later? And cut off the other pod??? Is this correct??? This is the first year I sowed from seed indoors and it worked great, but I never grew Datura's or Brug before. Please elaborate if you don't mind.

Pam, it is easier to direct you to a page in ABADS that letts about Datura seeds.
http://www.abads.net/Rich_Sanders/rich_grow_datura.htm

I say to remove all other seed pods once you have one growing because that will help keep your plant flowering throughout the season. ( if you leave lots of seedpods on, the plant thinks it has finished it's job of re-propagating itself and tends to decrease the number of flowers it produces)

Ahhhhhhhhhhh...now I get it!! Ruth Ann. Great website. It explained perfectly!

Oh No, I feel a new obsession brewing....and I have Patrick to blame for it!!! I really can't handle any more flowers. I have 3 perrenial flower gardens (wildlife, mostly hummingbird/butterfly) and a veggie garden. My deck is filled with flower container's. Ok, I'll admit I just counted them and there are over 75. Ok, OK, some are small pots, but over half are 12 inch or much larger. There is still room to walk, its a big deck, but I decided I need to take control of the addiction and try and act like an adult here. So, no more pots!! That way I can't buy anymore plants. hmmmmm, there must be a 12 step program nearby to help?

If you find one that works, Pam, let the rest of us in on your secret. It certainly has not worked for me ...LOL>
I love the color combo in your container --- very pretty !!!

Thanks Carrie!

The front of that pot has a face on it, but of course the flower had to bloom out the side! Maybe the next one.

What a lovely arrangement you have in that pot. I really like the plants you put together. I like that much better than my datura in a pot by itself. The branches are ugly at the bottom. I may have to steal your idea, lol.

Thanks Kristy,

I love putting containers together, moving things around until they look just right. This one did work out fine on the first try.
