Little Moon

Little Moon was a 6 inch cutting from Patrick last fall, I planted it in a earthbox with a 2 gallon dripper. It is huge - 5 stems with buds in different stages on all of them. I have 3 open blooms, and tons more from almost open to little buds only a inch long. I have never had such a wide variety of bud sizes on a plant before. It looks like it will be non-stop blooming for months. YES!! Thanks Patrick.

Well done, Sally...congrats! I'm amazed it has performed so well & so rapidly. Here in my climate, the mama plant hasn't started blooming yet. Little Moon is a sweet brug - I like having some like this that have smaller blooms.

I love it when a Brug blooms almost continuously. Large flushes have eye appeal but continuous bloom keeps my nose happy. Nicely shaped pure white one you have there Sally!

Oh, that is a pretty one. I had a cutting of that but it died over the winter with the withering thing. Its nice to see what it would have looked like at least, lol.

Sally, your Little Moon continues to outperform her mama...it must love your climate & your care. Mine is coming along, slow but sure, with some small buds but no blooms yet. Most brugs here are way behind schedule, altho I have a few blooming nicely. I'm guessing my best show will be between mid-August and the end of Sept.

Sally, the mama plant to your Little Moon finally opened 2 flowers today. There are more buds coming. I'm finally seeing a number of brugs getting their 1rst buds of the year.

L'Amour is outdoing itself - it has had anywhere from a few to several blooms open for at least a month. The plant isn't more than 4' tall and currently has 10 blooms open, distributed all around the plant.

Rosamond popped open a dozen buds today! That seems to be one of those brugs that holds developing buds while waiting for more to catch up, then gives a big flush of blooms all at once. I think these are the first blooms I've had on this plant...the above-Y branches go out rather laterally, so the blooms are displayed nicely.

I think I'll see quite a few brugs in bloom in about 2-3 weeks. Finally, the payoff!

I'll be scenting the whole neighborhood in the next few weeks, buds everywhere. Little Moon is getting ready to produce a huge flush. Inca Gold is covered with buds by the front door, Pink Beauty, Jean Pasco and Miss Emily all have a good showing in the near future, Sunset is getting ready to produce a third good size flush of flowers. Jim E. noid has been producing a few blooms continually. Desiree sp? is finally forking. And my various noids are going strong. I have a triple yellow datura that is approaching 4 feet. We are having a tropical summer here in the northeast. Lots of rain.
I love my garden.

Sally, I'm glad to hear you're having such a good brug year. Keep an eye on Pink Beauty and be prepared to give her some space. Even in my climate she gets huge. My larger plant has 2 trunks and is developing her first flush of the year. I'm about 5' 11" and when those blooms open, I won't be able to reach them.

My brug year isn't so hot...literally. Most of my plants are looking good and I have a lot of developing buds - I should have a good show about Labor Day. But many of these are plants that should have given me flowers around July 4th and a 2nd flush by now. If I get a 2nd flush from some, it won't likely be until October. Most of last year's seedlings have yet to bloom & several probably won't this year...believe me, that's a bummer! Oh well, nothing to do but enjoy what I get.

I am very happy for you, Sally. I had a couple of years like that, but not this one. This is acutally the worst year so far for me in the brug department, but hopefully, with the rain and cooler weather, it will get better before the season ends. I have never had as few to bloom for me as this year.

LOL...I emailed Carrie earlier and pointed out we were both having disappointing brug results for opposite reasons...her temperatures have been too high, while mine have been mostly too low; either way, same results

Pink Beauty was broken by some scampering squirrels when it was about 5 feet tall. Snapped it right in half. It is now about 4 feet and has forked and set some buds. I'm 5"5" and it is below my shoulders.
We are having a unusual summer, lots of rain. My biggest garden chore has been cutting things back.

Sally, she's looking fantastic! Her mama should be proud...or maybe embarassed that her daughter has out-bloomed her. Mama has only 5 blooms open is barely 4' tall. Next year I will try to remember to up-pot her and see whether that helps her performance.

Wow Sally, she's giving you over 3 weeks of blooms so far - happy for YOU
Carrie & Patrick I feel bad for you. I think this means next year you'll get TRIPLE blooms to make up! My brugs that are producing this year didn't do much last year, & the ones that did good last year are not doing much this year. I have some that are just starting small buds & I hope I get to see flowers on them this year.
This has been a weird summer for plants.

Re: Little Moon

August 29 2008, 4:06 PM

Sally, I love the little moon. I wonder if it would grow in the lower south where I live? I have missed the whole summer with my heart problems, and my flowers have suffered. All brugs. which I grow in ground are doing great even with the neglect. I got a great report last week from my cardiologist, and am back at work. Carrie the seeds for the small hibiscus you wanted, and wouldn't germinate, I found two plants about a foot tall in the yard, I will dig them up for you. I owe you,Kristy and Sally some cuttings big time. I just could not do a thing, and it was frustrating not being in the yard. Now we have another hurricane heading straight for us. My brugs have barely recovered from katrina. Almost to the same date in 2005 when it just about got us. I am stuck at work cause I work for the State of Mississippi. We are under a state of emergency and I cannot go home. It would probably be no good if I was there. I just hope it it does'nt blow them over, they are all just covered with buds. Wish me luck

I am hoping Gustav did little or no damage, Larry. At the present time, it looks as though the only thing I am going to get is the wrap around winds that are blowing my brugs around a lot. I was really hoping for some rain, and maybe there will be some a little later.
I certainly hope all your medical problems are under control, and you can get on with your life of taking care of your flowers.

Sally, I heard from Larry as well. He reminded my why I wouldn't want to be growing brugs along the Gulf Coast!

Little Moon's mama is finally looking better and having a decent flush with quite a few buds coming along behind. I think I shamed her into performing...I did everything short of taking your pics out to show her what her daughter was doing...lol.

Oh, Patrick, she would not have cared --- don't you know by now that brugs have no shame. They do WHAT they want to do WHEN they want to do it. Thank goodness, mine have finally decided to put on a show for me. I walked out last night to the most fragrant aroma ... found that Kyle's Pink has a much different (but very pleasing) scent. Even Maya is flushing for the first time this season - she REALLY did not like the heat.
