Finally, the nighttime temps are staying above 40 F. So, on Wednesday I moved all the brugs out of the garage into the backyard...over 100 pots. I still have over 50 in the guest bedroom I'll move out one day soon, but it's currently raining, so they can wait for now.
I think I mentioned before that I've seen tremendous growth of weeds and unwanted grasses where fertilizer leached last year from potted brugs. RoundUp and I have become close friends this year.

I have a bumper crop of weeds too. My daughter helped weed the flower beds today, but now I have to border them with a spraying of Round-Up. 150 brugs.....my gosh, that should keep you occupied all summer, easily. I just got four new ones from our friend, so my number has risen to about a dozen. LOL! I'm putting my energy into a veggie garden this year and let me tell you, that isn't saying much. Don't overdo it......
Well Patrick, since I heard it was supposed to rain today, I decided mine could stay in the basement for another few days. Maybe next week I will let them out to play!
Good plan, Selma...it's quite windy here right now & when I got home from work, just before dark, I could see some of mine have blown over. Little-to-no foliage, so I doubt much damage has been done. But I'm glad some of mine are still indoors.
Shirley, I hope to get the number down to about 50 by the end of the year. I think I'll be happier to have the number more manageable.

I can't even imagine dealing with 150 brugs, you really need to look into drip irrigation. I have about 30 and am open to adoption if any of my plant buddies show a interest. I love the brugs but I have varied plant interest. I also have started a large vege garden this year, I gave away a dozen 20 year old grape vines, ripped out the arbor and have enriched the soil with compost, I have planted onions, lettuce, spinach, and broccoli so far. I think I am frost free, but the nights are still low 40's. The hibiscus seem to be multiplying around here, they are mighty pretty plants that go with the tropical look of the brugs. But nothing smells as good as the brugs.
If weeds are a problem look into corn gluten or preen. Both work really well.
I use corn gluten on my lawn, and the weed preventer in some of my beds, but I really like for many of my plants to reseed, so those beds have to be carefully weeded.
Patrick, I am glad you have decided to scale back .... that way you can really ENJOY those you have. Since they so quickly grow to be "trees" down here, I am putting almost all of mine inground this year as they are just too difficult to move around anymore. I get a later blooming season this way, but my back feels better ...!!!!!!
Shirley, sounds like you are getting things going at your house now that the temps and weather are cooperating. This has been a very strange season for me .... but I think we are into the most beautiful part of Spring right now. My amaryllis are beautiful and the daylilies are starting to bloom. I love watching the various plants do "their thing" at various times. Gardening is such fun !!
I have both Preen and corn meal gluten...maybe I should look into USING them...lol!
Well, upon closer inspection, I find that my brug count, including potted cuttings from last year, totals just over 200...and then there are the several cuttings indoors still in water. YIKES!!!
