Seed pods!!!

I tried hand pollinating a couple of my brugs and have pods starting to grow. I have tried a hundred times and never got any but figured maybe since its been a little cooler I would give it a try. Low and behold my dorthea took with pollen from cherub and a couple of berkinign. My KBS X EP also took with Dorthea and cherub. I'm so excited, they're starting to grow. The ones on KBS X EP are long and skinny and the ones on Dorthea are more bulbous. I hope they stay on and grow. Should make for some good crosses. [linked image]

Congrats Jason!
I pollinated & got one seed pod of butterfly X Isabella. Planted them about 3 weeks ago & so far nothing. Do they always take so long to germinate?

Those are some nice crosses, I hope you get something good from them. Keep us updated on how they are doing.[linked image]

There are things that can make germinating seeds very disappointing. Generally, you will see one or a few seeds starting to sprout after about ten days, give or take. By three weeks, you should be seeing lots of green. Did you plant them on top of the soil or cover them? Did you sterilize the soil and then bag the planted pots so fungus gnats couldn't get in? My own personal experience is that fungus gnats ruin more seeds than anything. I never had good luck when I put my seed pots on heat. They did best at about 68 to 70 degrees. Also....I never watered them once they were planted in moist medium. I generally soaked them a day or so before planting, but didn't peel them. What works well for me tho, might not work well for someone else. I think growing from seed is fun, but you have to figure out what works best for you through trial and error.

Hi everyone long time no see [linked image]

I started playing over the winter in late Nov
I got Dr suess X Unknown pink-< keept its trunk in water in cool unheated game room.It hung out with the Wii and has watched me play rock band& Guitar Hero.
got Jamician Yellow X Betty Marshall-< Its actually Patrick's JY and Betty came from Carrie. My own JY is STILL only about 3 ft. My seeds aren't up yet (5/5),but SIL her's we're up in 3 days and all 15 of hers are up only 3 don't have 2nd leafs and one decapitated itself its alive.
since getting whats in ground in ground......... I've got

Cypress Gardens X NOL
Cypress Gardens X Arborea Gold

Seedling (Butterfly X Whiskers)X Cypress Gardens

I got a log skinny pod forming from CG X NOL but the tip got got by something but otherwise looks fine.I've got some cucumber beetles in my yard, but they are mostly eating on my alba Iochroma(and amaranthus).I think they even like the 3-1 fungicide.I would swear they come back for more sprahttp://www.network54.com/Realm/Bobky/eek.gif

Had one causualty seed pod Jamician Yellow X (bolero xAQ) It looked good for 1 1/2 months. I lost my water bottle trying to spread some water further back(squeeze bottle aim as far back as possible.I lost balance in cramped Gh and hand knocked pod off.It kinda ruined my day.I even left the water bottle there rest of season till moved plants out.

I have to worry about temps with pollinating also.liz told me morning we're best cause the temps are lower then.CG X NOL was actually crossed at 2 am-ish durring my durring the night potty break. It was 79 when did it and heat index was 84 humidity was just HI.I'm enjoying my cooler weather right now cause it won't last.we we're 83 yesterday but humidity is down in 30s.

I've also bought a variegated brug.I just [linked image] to stare at it.Its got striped buds too.I'm tempted to dab on it just to see the seed pods!Right now thats been the only one I've smelled cause been dabbing-tying-tagging-watching..lol

I have a really hard time getting pods to set in my climate. We can get hot anytime from March on, but our nights will still be in the low to mid 40's until late April. By the time my night temps. get warm enough our day's are usually to warm and the catalyx just drys up. We have been going through a cool spell with day's in the 70's and nights around 52 for a couple weeks now, so I started dusting like mad. I still think out of probably 70 cross I did, so far I have only found about 7 pods, but that is better than nothing. Sometimes it can really be discouraging.

The seedpods look as if they are almost ready. The stem is yellowing and they are getting very swollen. If anyone would like some please let me know. I'll have (KBS X EP)X Dorthea and Dorthea X Cherub. My KBS X EP plant surprised me at how well it can tolerate the heat. Its in full sun and still growing like crazy and throwing off a few blooms. No big flushes but in this heat I'll take what I can get. Here's a spring pic of KBS X EP....
