Storms in North Texas

MN gave us all a scare last night and into today. Tornadoes, strong winds and rain falling at 9 inches per hour took us all a bit by surprise. Especially since the weatherman said it was a fast moving storm and would be gone within the hour. I had some tree damage, but hopefully, none of my brugs have been badly damaged when I get the tree limb off them. Now, we have to brace for a near 100 degree week-end, and with all this humidity, should make for a muggy one. My daughter just called me from San Angelo (she and her husband are enroute to Odessa for a DRT convention), and said it was 109 degrees there. This may be a hot one ......
Stay tuned ................[linked image]

Ugh, that doesn't sound like very pleasant weather at all! We have broken sunshine, and about 70 degrees, with a light wind blowing. Just dry enough to need to water the brugs daily. They are starting to put forth leaves; can hardly wait for blooms and that lovely brug scent!

Same weather as Selma, it got to 72. It'll get hot here soon enough. There was a flash flood watch & nickle-sized hail & 40 mph winds all around me (I live down in the hollow between 2 mountains). Thankfully all we got was lots of thunder & lightning & a good bit of rain but it wasn't too bad. There is another flash flood watch again tonight. Wish DH had the rain barrels put up.

Well, Carrie...sounds like MN can do a lot in "an hour"! I'm glad you had no serious damage - hope the brugs are ok. I fed mine a week ago for the first time this year & they really popped. I'm seriously behind in repotting some, but am not at all happy with the pickup load of potting mix I brought home. I think I'll have to dump it on the flower beds and try another load.

Bet your beds will enjoy the mix, Patrick, and they should "pop", also.
Heard on the news last night that this area received over 40,000 lightening strike in slightly over nine hours.

Wow, Carrie, think of all that nitrogen that was released by the lightning! Wish I'd been there to watch the show.

The brugs faired remarkably well, Linda. I did lose a large plummie limb to the willow limb that snapped in the back yard. Did not know that until I was cleaning up today.
Patrick, the lightening was almost continuous as was the thunder, of course. You could have stayed up with me watching it. Everything appreciates the amount of nitrogen it received and is oh, so green. I know our stressed trees appreciated it as well. [linked image]

Okay, the entire week-end was spent on the clean up after the storms. I am happy to report it is now done, and I can get on with caring for my brugs and other plants. Now, if MN will just not send any more violent weather this season...............[linked image]

I'm sure glad you are finished with the mess of cleaning up after the storm. I know how you feel having to deal with it all. Most of us have probably had a bad storm or two in our brug growing years. No fun, but part of Mother Nature's plan for us.

Good that you're caught up & I'm amazed you didn't get any more damage than you did. I can't even imagine that much rain. We've never had anything near that amount even in flood years. [linked image]

I think I have been relocated to PNW...`19 days of rain in a row and cold. I am feeling moldy.

Yeah, MN seems to have things a little backwards this year...we recently came within minutes of setting a record for the greatest number of consecutive days without measurable rain. It seems MN sent the rain somewhere else (like to Sally?!). MN seems to have recognized the error of her ways, however. We've just had rain & thunderstorms...and yesterday's high of 55F. set a record for the lowest "high" temperature for the date.

MN has certainly made gardening a challenge for me this year. I would love 'SOME" of your rain, Sally, gets dry again here in less than a week. Someone wrote the other day that in a perfect gardening world, we would get rain only one day each week ..... are you listening, MN?? [linked image] [linked image]

Better qualify that a bit, Carrie...in TX, MN likes to dump huge amounts of rain at one time. If she did that to you once a week, you might have a problem! [linked image]

You are so right, Patrick, guess I had best leave MN to do her own thing, and just learn to live with it. [linked image]
