Any Suggestions about ID

DH saw a blackbird with a red to orange head and neck this afternoon. It was getting water at the birdbath and bathing. I will try to keep an eye out for him again and get a picture but does anyone have an idea what this bird could be?

Hi Dianne, the only thing I can think of would be some type of woodpecker?? Take a look at these links and tell me what you think? ...Maybe somebody else knows?

Why not a Yellow-headed Blackbird? They are unusual but not unknown visitors to your area, so if that's what it was, report it!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will show these birds to hubby and see what he says. When he told me about the bird I first thought of a woodpecker. I also found the yellowheaded backbird as a bird for Alabama and showed him a picture of one. He didn't think that was the one. I need to leave my camera on the porch so it will be handy when new birds show up.

Don't you love it when husbands report weird and unusual birds when you're not around? My husband still swears up and down that a Cape May Warbler landed on our back porch last fall during migration. Yeah, riiiiiiiight...the problem is, it's actually possible - just not probable!
