kingfisher on rainy day.

I had no luck with kingfishers all summer long. Cedar root perch I stuck in the lake work more like a deterrent and only and occasional egret or green heron would feel bad for me and used it sparingly. Things turned around about a month ago. I have now an adult male, juvenile female and juvenile male all chasing each other and using my perch like they couldn’t live without it. It is very common now, for all 3 birds, to catch a fish and fly to this perch to consume it. In fact the fish below is a salt water fish, I live on a coastal but fresh water lake, so he had to catch it at least 600 yards away.
As you can see it is still raining:-(

as usual there are more shots, much larger with little more detail on my web site:

Speaking of that would you mind sharing with us what settings on the camera you were using Mike?

Hey,Mike..!!

Glad the birds have come (to your perch) home to roost!!

or some such thing..

it is always fun to follow the sightings you have, both at home at the perch ( thankfull, once again )
as well as your adventures to the beaches.

by the way, these were captured from your blind ( as shown in your photos from some time ago) near the perch, correct?

thanks again.

Great shots! Like Kristy I find them elusive. I usually hear them before I see them.

Yes, same spot,
This is the place although 3 blinds and 3 perches latter.

And yes they are very illusive. Even with permanent blind they are very skittish. I have to be in full camouflage and absolutely motionless. The smallest of movement and they’re gone. It took about two weeks to get them used to camera noise.

Thanks
Mike

My son and I are big on hockey. In fact at my age!, I still play 3 time/week. The net you’re looking at is a hockey goalnet which we use in the winter if and when the ice freezes. The net in this pic was there only temporary and its not in my way anymore.

Thanks
mike
