The Finch Connection

Hi all,

We're seeing some of our Winter birds just starting to arrive now... a few Juncos, Chipping Sparrows, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and even one Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. But we've gotten only a few decent shots of these guys so far.

Anyway, as I was looking thru our recent gallery photos, it occurred to me that we've got Finches all year long, and tho we do take quite a few photos of them we almost never share any of them in the forums. So I thot maybe now would be a good time to do that.

I know they're pretty common most places, and we do kinda take them for granted sometimes...
But we'd sure miss them if they weren't around.

Hope you enjoy them,

Kenn

Kenn, I love how the photos show the different stages of molting on the American Goldfinches.

I usually have them year round here also. Yet for for almost a month they left and just this week they are visiting my feeders again. I did take them for granted and found myself missing them. Most happy that they are back.

Thanks for sharing these photos.

We only have the Goldies in the winter, and I usually have over 30 but last winter I didn't have any. I hope they come back this year I missed them

Great shots!

Awesome pics. I wish we had finches. The first year we moved here I saw two and then in the next two and a half years zero. I even put out special feed for them, but I stopped buying it when it was going to waste.

Btw, funny thread title!

Thanks all,

We do enjoy the finches year-round and it's quite interesting to see how much they change thruout the seasons. And speaking of moulting, I probably should have included this really odd-fellow in the series:

thanks for all your nice comments,

I love the pics! They are all beautiful! And that "odd fellow" seems to be getting a good mix in his diet to have both the red and the orange feathers. He's pretty! happy.gif
