That tanager is spectacular! One of these days I'm going to get to your part of the world and see these beauties in person.

Peter - Are there coffee plantations at your elevation? Do any local birds forage on coffee beans?

Peter all of your photos are super! But that kite looks like the bird I saw here in Pennsylvania for only a few seconds in September. I wish I had gotten a picture. But I'm glad you did because it only confirms what I saw. Thanks for such an awsome picture!

Bob at 2100m I am a little high for the coffee which grows best between 1200m and 1700m. The birds seem to like to peal the beans for the husk but not consume the bean its self.

James there are monkeys here but they seem to be nocturnal and very timid. I’ve only seen a dead one.The two best animals I have seen are a Tigrillo (a spotted cat about a meter long) and a Kinkajou. I read Paris Hilton had one as a pet and it bit her. The one that visited here would actually take bananos I offered it.

Sarah I missnamed the kite. It is the Swallow-tailed Kite. I´m not sure it´s in the US.

Thanks Peter for sharing these wonderful photos.

My son-in-law is from Bogota(sp?) and I can't wait to tell him about your post and also show them to my granddaughter. I hope to one day visit there. This helps me learn more about this area.
