Today my SO and I went on a wild Acorn Woodpecker hunt, a local gated community has complained of their high numbers and has received approval to kill some of them. Since we wanted to see them before it was too late we went searching. Well we didn't find any woodies but we found a rafter of about 8 Toms happy.gif

...You're kidding me right??[linked image] I've waited patiently for 3+ years to find an Acorn Woodpecker and so far, I haven't been lucky enough to get a shot of one yet...[linked image]

Unfortunately Ruth I kid you not sad.gif. Apparently some of the condos in this neighborhood were built with a lightweight stucco material that they can peck right through. This is what you get for using cheap materials.

We actually thought the place would be teaming with them after the news report but we only saw one in flight and that was it sad.gif

Poor woodpeckers! They are such beautiful birds.
I hope they manage to evade the sharpshooters.

Not good news for the woodpeckers, and at this time of year, those turkeys should stay in the bush. Great pictures [linked image]

Maybe I'm missing something, but if the quota of 50 birds is killed, won't new ones just move in? Or is this an ongoing effort?
