A new winter bird

Howdy folks:

Some of you know me from the sister "Hummingbird Forum" here; I've been reading posts here but not really had much to contribute thus far. In addition to the winter hummingbirds we get in Louisiana, we also get small numbers of a variety of other neotropic songbirds which mostly winter south of here, in Mexico or Central America.

Today, I had a new visitor show up at my hummingbird feeder - a young male Baltimore Oriole. It's not a yard first (or even a winter first) for me, but it's a nice way to brighten a winter day.

Great pictures! Seems like it will be forever before we are seeing them again up here!

What is the little orange dot above the bird in the first two pictures? Is it his thought bubble? LOL...J/K! happy.gif

Kristy,

I checked the original pics (from before resizing them) to see... that orange dot isn't there. So I'm guessing it's an artifact of the resizing/compressing process when I shrunk the pics to a reasonable size.

I hadn't even noticed it until you pointed it out - very odd!

Peter,

The feeder is a Perky-Pet Four Fountains feeder (a very common model here in the US), but with the fake "flowers" and bee guards removed. When those are taken off, larger birds (including, in my yard, House Finches, Carolina Chickadees, Orange-crowned Warblers, and Downy Woodpeckers).

The feeder can be drippy, but that's one reason it's works for larger birds, too.
