White-crowned Sparrow

Hummingbirder 2008

This pretty bird has been at my feeder a few times in the past week, he's very noticable among my millions of HOSPS, why would I only get one?

Probably because you have millions of HOSPs. HOSPs make a feeding station less attractive to other birds - and they're really, really bad for your native cavity nesters, too. If you can discourage them, you should. Don't use "cheap" feeds with lots of filler seeds - the HOSPs will eat them, but not much else will. White millet by itself is much more attractive to native ground feeders, and it's not expensive. A feed store will stock it if your bird feeding source doesn't have it.
