Question about bird feeder and Robin nest

My 1 bird feeder hangs by a cord over a cut off branch. The
original one broke. I've tried several types of cord and they
always break within a month in the same spot. I've searched
on-line and off and can't find the same type it came with. It
was somewhat stiff, maybe waxed? so it held the U shape to
hang it up. I hate to have to replace the feeder because of
the cord. Any help in what the name of the cord is or where
to find it would be greatly appreciated.

My robbins are building a nest for the 3rd year in the same big
Rhodo bush against our house. I heard thumping yesterday and
saw them banging into my window right in front of the bush. Attacking
their own reflection in the window. Closed the blinds right away. That
worked. Remembered that from last 2 years. Their last 2 nests
are still there a couple foot apart, so I'm assuming they don't reuse
them and wondering if I should remove them? Figured this would be
the place to ask.

Thanks for any advice on these 2 questions.

Elaine,

No ideas on what kind of cord you had, but depending on how the feeder hangs, you might find some sort of wire more durable. The easiest solution I can think of: those pre-made wire things that are used to support hanging baskets. They typically have a durable hook molded into the wires for support.

As for the old nest: I would just leave it alone. Obviously it's not bothering the birds and perhaps others will eventually cannibalize parts of it for nesting material. If they bother you, I'd wait till after the nesting season's completely over, and then remove them.

Thanks Kevin. Maybe the wire will work. It's a odd feeder.
It has a 2 inch flat section on the roof that you have to
lift up to fill. The cord goes through 2 drilled holes in
that 2 inch section. Replacing the feeder would have been
the easy thing to do, but it drives me crazy when I can't
fix something.

Will leave the old Robin's nests. They don't bother me. I
just figured if they don't re-use them, they might just
be sucking up space where the Robins feel is the safest
place in the Rhodo. It's so sweet getting to watch them
at close range all through the nest building till the babies
fly out. Posted some pics last year of them. So cute.

You could go to a hardward store and buy some very thin wire cable to restring your feeder. Thats what I bought to redo several of my feeders. Just make sure to cut it a little longer than needed. That makes it easier to take the feeders apart for cleaning.

Thanks Renee. Seems like you know the type of feeder I have.
I knew there had to be a way to replace the cords. Kevin also
said wire. Looks likes DH is off to Lowes for wire cable.
