Hi all,

It's been awhile since we did a "backyard sampler" posting here... I think the last time nearly all our birds were in some stage of moulting raggedness. So here's a fresh batch of photos with them all dressed up in their new Fall feathers.

A juvie Goldfinch:

A Tufted Titmouse:

A White-breasted Nuthatch:

A male Cardinal (this guy was bald all during the Summer):

Stunning! Besides the incredible birds, I'm really liking the branch the white breasted nuthatch, carolina wren, and bluebirds are sitting on. It is very interesting.

How are you getting so close to the birds?

Great photos and your backyard is home to typical backyard birds. I see all of them except the bluebird is an early spring only visitor for me. I am sure you also get the Downy and Hairy woodpeckers, Sparrows, Starlings, Cowbirds, Doves, Mockingbirds and maybe Rose-breasted Grosbeaks for migration.

Thanks Alice. We love our birds, and sharing them with friends online only adds to our enjoyment of them happy.gif

Thank you Gayla. We have perches (both man-made and natural) setup around our backyard deck, and also several nearby trees, gardens, and berry bushes. The perches you're asking about are driftwood pieces placed in flower pots or just laying on the deck rail. We provide favorite treats (mealworms, raisins, and nutmeats) for our regulars, and place these all around the deck in addition to our regular seed and suet feeders.
We're outside with our birds a lot everyday and they've become very accustomed to our presence, so we don't have to hide ourselves. They routinely perch within a few feet of us and don't mind our constant clicking at all. Our Bluebirds, Wrens, Titmice, Nuthatches and several others know full well that we are the bringers of their favorite foods... and they are often waiting for us on the deck when we come out each morning. happy.gif

Thanks Russ. Yes we are very fortunate to have lots of common backyard birds here, (photos of 59 species in our galleries so far), and we love them!
