On the inside of one of the doors there is a dates etched in (maybe by a machine) that is from 1906. There is also a service date from a clockmaker from a cleaning done in 1909. I am going with 1906.
I could have done a better job cleaning the brass, but I am satisfied with my results. My friend did one of these the other day. He put the case parts in the ultrasound machine to get the dirt off, then scrubbed them with muriatic acid (sp?). The rinsed with water, scrubbed with a wire brush, polished with brass cleaner, then back in the ultrasound again before drying and spraying with lacquer.
The parts came out perfect, but I didn't want that acid in my house. Another friend had some in his house and it ate through the container and rusted everything in his basement!!
