I, too, have a digital camera with one of those telescoping lens systems on it. If your camera was mounted on a tripod to steady it while shooting a watch photo on a table top stage, you might be able to rig some sort of separate stand that would hold a sheet of polarizing material in front of its lens when it was extended. The square sheets of this material are, I think, several inches on a side and they probably have them up to 12 inches on each side. I'm not sure where you could obtain this material, but it's probably available on the web.
