My understanding of the electric models is that the timing is based on a balance wheel principle and is adjustable through hairspring tension similar to the mechanicals. The battery provides the motive force to the wheel directly rather than through the escapement. The timing of the electric impulses is regulated by the oscillation frequency of the wheel that triggers a micro switch. The electronic versions use an electronic circuit to regulate the timing of the impulses. Consequently, although the electric and electronic movements may have some similar components, their operating principles are fundamentally different so modification is probably not feasible.
