I'm new to the whole watch thing. I only had one watch in my life for a couple years before I lost it. Recently I decided that I want another watch and started browsing (don't want it to just tell time - I'm kind of a tech geek). Since I like to go trekking, watches with compass, altimeter and so on caught my eye. Unfortunately my wrist is really thin(14-15cm) and most watches I found were too big, too ugly or too expensive(Timex WS4,Casio Pro Treks, Suuntos, Tissot t-touch expert). I wanted something for everyday use, not for trekking only. The Timex IQ series caught my eye, because I like analogue watches and they are just a bit smaller than the big multi-sensor ones. I was wondering between altimeter and compass, but I think compass is handier. So I chose IQ Compass (the one with the green nylon band) and fly-back chronograph compass (the one with the lighter dial). Although the chronograph function is really useful I like the simpler compass-only watch a bit more.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about watches and can't find much info on these models. My main concern is durability. I'm not the extreme type, but I ride my bicycle every day and go through curbs and stairs quite often. Also what about swiming and diving or jumping from cliffs - nothing too extreme and never go more than 2 meters under water. So I wonder how those watches will cope with such use. One other thing - in my country it seems watch stores aren't very well stocked and I can't find them, so if anybody has one I'd like to read your opinions. Also where I find them(in Bulgarian web stores) they are very overpriced compared to US and UK web stores, so I'll probably order from foreign site and it'd better be right the first time...
I'm also open to suggestions about similar watches.
Well, I think that's about it. Thanks in advance for your input and advices. Looking forward to reading them.
