| Just because I don't have a need to brag about being "highly experienced" does not mean that I do not, in fact, have a LOT of practical experience when it comes to timepieces, both clocks and watches.
I often give advice intended to let the very beginner at least get some results with a watch WITHOUT him having to spend a small fortune on the "right" tools for the job. Telling him he must first consult various manuals and then purchase all of the right tools to get a simple job done when there ARE effective low cost solutions is a guaranteed way to permanently persuade him NOT to even try collecting and repairing vintage timepieces. I'd rather encourage him to try a "quick fix", even if it is not the best way to do something, to get him involved and then, hopefully, over time as his interest and skills grow, he can go on to doing it the "right" way with better tools.
