Crystals with facets

Hello all, I've run across a Timex Quartz model from 1977 that had a crystal with facets (and a rather large crack). After doing some research on this great site I was able to quickly and rther easily remove the crystal and the inside retaining ring. I'm not looking at putting a new facet-style crystal back in, just a normal dome style.

Now here's the problem....has anyone here ever put one of these back together ? I'm not sure about how to go about installing the ring, which appears to have been on the inside of the crystal, wedging the crystal tight against the case.
