Nice collection, Charlie!

I see you have an affinity to Russian watches.

Besides my few hundred Timex I also collect tuning fork (hummers) as well as other electrics such as Hamiltons.
You can see some of them here.

Nice ones Charlie...

July 4 2008, 12:52 PM

...so the Helbros is still running, is it?

Besides my Timex's I really like the ORIS brand, so I have a few of those in addition to a bunch of other brands ( don't ask... ). I really should take a group-pic of a few of my non-Timex watches - good idea Charlie!

The Helbros

July 4 2008, 11:47 PM

YES! (Knut gave me that Helbros Diver! It was unexpected and appreciated. It's one of my favorite watches and it runs like a top!)

Thanks again Knut! You're one in a million, buddy!

Besides Timex I also collect...

Benrus (sentimental reasons) and Seiko (good watch; keep finding them!). My collection is actually pretty diverse. The 50+ watches I have ready to wear comprise at least a dozen brands.

Nice collection of divers!

Those are some pretty nice straps too. Are they after market or did they come equipped that way?

A little of both....

July 5 2008, 8:14 AM

The "Zulu" straps are aftermarket but most of the rubber straps either came on the watches or were taken off other watches I already had.

Is that Poljot an alarm watch?

July 4 2008, 8:30 PM

I think I have seen a few of them on the bay from Russia. Thought about bidding on one.

Poljot!

July 4 2008, 11:59 PM

Yes that is a very cool little watch!
Poljot: [flight] made in the First Russian Watch Factory.
(I love the history of Russian watch manufacture.)

That watch has a very cool clanky alarm. What you'd expect from a Soviet watch. More like an egg timer than any classic tone you might get from a minute repeater. Sounds a bit like a cicada.

I recommend this watch highly if you see one on "da 'bay" bid on it. I got mine amazingly cheap. I'd pay $60 - $100 for it and got it for half that. Go man!

Poljot Alarm

July 5 2008, 4:39 AM

Yes Ron, I have one of those also, the alarm consists of a small rotating "hammer" based on an eccentric cam, that hits off the caseback (I kid you not).

Very effective, lasts around 40 seconds, if you're wearing it you get some vibration as well as the sound. If they're on US fleabya for $20 or so, then that's good, there's higher prices here this side of the pond, maybe more demand?

I think the reason they were so cheap is the dials were not perfect. nt
