It's my very first Seiko "Orange Monster." The watch head and bracelet came from two different collectors on two other watch forums.

And, a fun shot:

Thanks for looking. I have a Black Monster coming sometime next week. I think I have been bitten by the "Monster Bug."

Cheers,

Ed

Nice and...

massive looking! That was a very popular item on ShopNBC about a year or so ago and is still one of Seiko's top sellers. I like the way they put the seconds markers on a sloping ring around the dial. Rather than using paint, it looks like the hour markers were actually molded from plastic laced with LumiBrite which is supposed to be as good as Super LumiNova.

Good luck with it...

glows like a torch! Very impressed with the luminosity. And being an automatic watch, I like it EVEN better!

Thanks for looking.

And good to see you back to buying mechanical watches! lol

You say that is not the original band? What should it have?

This model came in two styles >>>>>

one with a rubber dive strap; the other with this stainless bracelet you see in the pic. I prefer the metal to rubber. The watch heads are the same for both models; only difference is the strap or bracelet.

This is an original Seiko stainless bracelet.

Cheers,

Ed

Yes, the rubber straps...

cost less than the metal bracelets, but they tend not to hold up as well. EVERY watch I've owned in the past that had a plastic or rubber strap eventually had the strap break due to "elastomer fatigue". I'd hate to have that happen while I was swimming in the ocean and then lose a watch that cost hundreds because a strap that cost the manufacturer less than $5 USD per unit to produce failed!

Of course, there was some discussion here recently about how shiny steel bracelets on dive watches could attract pests like baracudas that can inflict a nasty bite on a swimmer's arm. I've noticed that a lot of manufacturers of dive watches are now making steel bracelets with "satin" finishes or even black PVD coatings in order to cut down on their reflectivity which is not, of course, a problem with the rubber straps.

Although I always try to get a metal bracelet for durability with a sports watch, I do prefer leather on a dress watch for its comfort and elegance. Too bad they can't make a metal bracelet that LOOKS like leather. I don't mean with a few leathery plastic inserts on the metal links as I think I saw on a bygone Timex model, but with actual steel links that had grain etched into them and were actually plated with something that looked like leather...maybe that new "brown gold" I'm starting to see. Well, maybe we'll see exactly that in another year or so as brown watches continue to become more popular.
