Beautiful Elgin

I've carried this the past 24 hours. It's a seven jewel Elgin from 1905-1917. It's a customers watch that had not worked in 62 years. Had a bad hair spring and the balance wheel was not the correct size.
Winding arbor was shot and the crown wheel had a bad tooth. Finished repairs and so far keeping exceptional time. It's a beautiful watch. The customer should be pleased.
Best,
JR

I like that one. Looks like it cleaned up great.

I picked up 4 pocket watches today at the flea market. Two Elgins, a Longines, and one I cannot identify. I will probably spend the rest of the day cleaning them up!

What a fun hobby,
Ron

Hey JR

I figured out the mystery pocket watch. It's marked Hahn Landeron. My research shows it is really from a company called Charles Hahn & Cie. Their mark on the movement says Hahn Landeron, loosly translated meaning the factory of Hahn, in Landeron.

The Longines has a serial number that dates it to 1875.. Pretty cool!

1875, puts that in a antique category. I own a couple of Bulova's from 1935 and thats the oldest in my collection. Hang on to the Longines.
Best,
JR
ps: the lady was so pleased with her watch she gave me a tip on top of the 75.00 I charged her!

Mysteries are fun...

when you solve them. Is this 'Landeron' the same company that made the early 'swissonic' electric movements for Waltham and others?

Not sure, the watch is so much older...

The Landeron actually says Hahn Landeron on the movement. The research I found on the watch was that it is made by a company call Hahn in the town of Landeron. Later on the company just went by the name Landeron. The Landeron is probably from around 1890s.

Here is the Longines:

The serial number is in the 132k range which dates it to somewhere around 1875. Not sure if the case is original. The movement is strange.. you can wind it and set it from the back with a key, or stem wind it and set the time by moving the lever. Too bad the dial is messed up. Cool hands though!

The case was gold plated. The gold is still on the inside, but all but worn off on the outside.
