Thanks to that heads up from Ed, I managed to get a two-fer.. well that's what I am calling it. At those prices, it was like getting one free!

I liked the band on the black dial one, but like the dial on the silver (or is it white) one. After spending a few minutes trying to decide which one to buy, I ended up buying them both:

My intentions were to put the stainless steel band on the silver dial one, but the black leather band is of a very high quality and looks great on it so I may leave it alone.

BTW, the sale is from July 2nd-6th...

The black dial one was my first new Timex automatic about 2 years ago. (more)

I found it on eBay for $30. The seller's picture was so bad that nobody bid on it. So, I downloaded the sellers pic and did some "surgerY" with the GIMP; well it looked good, so I entered a last second bid and won it. I was still the ONLY bidder. Another thing, the original owner had thrown away the original metal bracelet and put an old leather strap with was too narrow for the wide lugs. That's was another negative, I believe. So, I just ordered up a new replacement steel bracelet from TImex. At the time it was only $8.00. (They've gone up to $12.00 now) So, for $38 bucks I owned my first Timex automatic. Still have it and it runs great. It did have a few scratches on the case, but I buffed them out with my Dremel and restored the case to new. Here's a pic of it after I restored it:

I have forgotten...

I believe there are two generations of this watch. One with the 'fish-eye' date and one without. Please help me with the first and second generations.

John, both of mine have the "bubble" on the crystal.. if that is what you are talking about. They also both have the name Timex on the rotor. Maybe someone can help with that last comment... did the original ones say Timex on the rotor? I thought I remembered folks complaining that the rotor was plain.

As I understand it, the first generation of the new Timex automatics>>>>

July 4 2009, 9:33 AM

had the "fish eye" over the date window. Though I have not seen them, I also understand that Timex dropped the "fish eye" from what is now called the "second generation" Timex automatics. I have heard that if you had a problem with the crystal and it was returned to Timex, they replaced the crystal with a "none-fish-eye" crystal.

I checked my black dial, my yello dial and my newest silver dial Timex automatic, and they ALL have "Timex" on the rotor.

Hope this helps.

Both say "Timex" on the rotor and both have the magnifier over the date.

I am curious about these modern Timex automatics. Does anyone know their origin? I gather these are modern designs and no relation to the original Timex automatic movements. Are they Swiss or Chinese origin? Just curious.
