Bought a very nice French back-set electric in great shape which will run strong for minutes to hours and then just quite - any help appreciated. If I remember from Mel the back is glued on.
Thanks Paul

The Movement Comes Out Through the Front

I don't know if the back on the old electric back-set is glued on or if it's welded but the back is not meant to be opened or removed. You have to remove the crystal, disengage the back set lever (sometimes there's a screw to loosen) and remove the dial/movement through the top/front of the case.

If you happen to have one with the fingers..a little tip, if only working on one watch leave the crystal in the remover, makes it sooo much easier to re-install!

.. I like these.. I have never seen a mint one befor actualy they always tent to have some dial damage, hope yours is in a good state.

Some of these backsets tent to open indeed via the back because the back was glued on, I have some of these. Its pretty anoying actualy to
have to back loose because you need to glue it yourself again as they loosen up if you dont do that, as they are made to open thru the crystal.

If you use a crystal lift on these, tight the crystal and turn it upside down so that the watch is on top and the lift below the watch,
thats easier to lift and the movement stays on the crystal (if you have the right tension). Dont pull with brute force else the dial will be
somewhere in the corner of the room...

Some of the backsets have a screw inside the crown on the back you have loosen it to remove the movement.

A yes.. they take an AG13..

Good luck...

A trick to test the balance...

Something i always do with electric and electronic is test them on my ear and while doing that im listening to it for 60 seconds or
more in every direction... up down square left upside down..any direction... And listen for irregularities in the tik tik Tok tik tik ToK sound..
If it stops when its upside down you have a balance problem probably... If it makes an irragular sound while moving it in different
ways you first try to clean inspect it under a loup and look at the movement swing.. if needed oil it a little (not on the jewels but on the gears,
if you can reach these..).... MOst of these come back to life and are just in need for a clean or oil 'bath' or a fresh battery...
