Old watch

Hello everyone. I could really use some help. I found an old watch of my fathers (a Timex gold tone calendar watch). I think it needs to be serviced...the winding knob (forgive me if this is not the proper name)is just about bald, so its hard to turn, and I cannot figure out how to set the time and date...does not seem to want to work.

Anyhow, I am trying to revive it...I found a photo online of what it looks like:

http://www.amazon.com/VINTAGE-TIMEX-GOLD-CALENDAR-WATCH-NO/dp/B004IR8NX2/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It needs a new crystal, as this one is cracked...can anyone help me?

Thank you in advance and I appreciate all of your help.

Sincerely,

Mike Lentoski

We call that style the TV dial (for obvious reasons) but I think it is technically a Marlin from the late 70's early '80s. The Catalog number is hidden under the bezel at the bottom of the dial and you must remove the movement to access it. To remove the movement you must loosen (not remove) the screw holding the lever that overlaps the stem (obvious when watch is opened.) The info will help. I have a similar '81 Catalog 288111 with a 106 movement and my parts lists don't go that late. Maybe someone can match these numbers to a crown and crystal number so that we can check our parts inventories.

I have an auction ending today on ebay that has that very model in it. Search for seller pack43. If that does not workout for you, I may have the crystal in parts.

Yes, I would be interested in that watch, but it seems I am too late sad.gif

Do you actually have the crystal in parts? This watch is about all I have of my fathers, so if I could get it running that would be great! I knew it was not a treasure or worth a boatload of money, but its very nice for a vintage watch.

Generally I do not take on work but in this case I was compelled since it was my dads watch that got me into collecting. Required parts: click, crown\stem, crystal, center canon pinon, and elbow grease.
