had to hold onto the crown stem to unscrew the crown in the little space between the dial and the case

i like the aluminium case, but as a frontloader it was a chore. at least now i'm equiped for next time. many many thanks to mo and everyone else that have been involved in making the forum possible and for the instructions posted from the timex catalogues onto the forum. tim

used a metal saw blade, but couldn't wait to give it a good finish once it got to the right size little by little. the crown came off, so the tool will wait 'till the next job before i polish it up. tim

customized tools is a great way to exercise creativity, develop manual dexterity, and, most importantly, SAVE MONEY!

Now, hopefully, that screw driver tip you filed away on won't turn into a rusty mess now that the protective plating is gone. Unless the shaft was made from some expensive "rust free" alloy, you might want to put a thin layer of oil on it to inhibit future rusting.
