Possible Visit and Performance

by

My name is Bill Williams and I am the education director at Midland Community Theatre in Midland, Texas. I also serve as the Artistic Director for the Pickwick Players which is our teen performance group at the theatre.

Every few years we like to approach theatres about possibly visiting them to give a performance, allow our students and theirs to interact and possibly even do a joint drama workshop. Over the past few years our travels have taken us to the World Festival of Children's Theatre in Turkey and also performances in Russia. In 2000 we appeared at KidsFest in Christchurch, New Zealand and in 2003 we did performances of "Tom Sawyer" and a workshop at the People's Theatre in Newcastle, England.

I am now searching for opportunities for us for the this summer. Our group is interested in visiting Ireland to perform for and do a joint workshop with another youth theatre company.

We would take care of all travel arrangements and our lodging while there. All you would have to agree to is to provide a space for us to perform and advertise our appearance.

Our productions do not require much to put on. We will bring our costumes and try to keep
the set and lighting simple.

We have found these trips to be educational for our students as well as the host theatre's.The performance is important to us but the interaction of the community and the kids involved is really what makes the experience so valuable.

For us the window for such a visit would be sometime between July 26-August 7.

I hope that you are intrigued by this proposal and I look forward to hearing from various youth theatres in Ireland to discuss this further.

All the best,

Bill Williams

employment in Theater for Young Audiences?

by

Hello! I am desperate to move to Ireland, and I would love to work with an Outreach theatre company or a Youth Theatre group. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction, as I am having difficulty finding anything!
Cheers!

NAYD

by Smiling Irish

Your best bet would be to get in touch with the NAYD, National Association of Youth Theatre, and the Dept. of Education. I'm sure you can find someone to email if you visit their websites - www.youthdrama.ie and www.education.ie,

Thanks
