Good morning! I apologize for making contact through this forum, but, I didn't think that this warranted a phone call from me, and I can't get Outlook to work on my computer!

I live in the Trenton, NJ area. On the evening of 6/28/2010, my step-daughter woke my wife and I at about 11:45 stating that there was someone in the house. She said that it sounded as if they had tossed some pots and pans into the basement. While I secured the house (nothing there), my wife continued to speak to her and our two boys. According to them, these noises had been going on for the previous 30 minutes or so.

What creeped me out about this is that at the same time, I was having a dream about being in an argument with something in a staircase that was pulling on me from behind. But, I was prepared to blow the whole thing off.

When I spoke to the kids the next day, my step-daughter told me that in addition to the noise in the basement, she continued to hear what sounded like her rabbit rattling in its cage (the rabbit's been dead for over a year), and something in her closet trying to open it. She also stated that her cat was very unsettled and kept vocalizing and pacing most of the evening. When she tried to let the cat out of her room, she said that it felt as if someone on the other side was pulling back on the door handle. When she got it opened, she said that there was a black shadow between her door and ours.

I can tell you that there was a person who committed suicide in my house (we believe it was in the basement) about 20 or 30 years ago. Up until now, however, we've never had any incidents. I have about 1,000 questions about this, but, I guess my the most important ones are: 1. Are we crazy? 2. Was there something going on with the weather, etc to help something manifest itself? 3. Is there any way to tell from the information given what kind, if any, of haunt this is? and 4. Can I expect more?

ANY information you can provide me with is appreciated.

No, you're not crazy! As a matter of fact, just last week there was some geomagnetic activity that could have added enough extra energy to the atmosphere to help the spirit manifest itself and create activity.
Since you've had several occurrences in such a short amount of time, I would think there is a strong possibility you will have something else happen. It may be related to the death in the house, but it could be something else entirely. Sometimes it's really hard to say what starts activity and what the root cause is. You didn't mention how old your step-daughter is, but poltergeist activity is thought to be created by pre-teen to teen females going through puberty and other stresses during this time of their life.
Would you be willing to fill out a questionnaire? It would give us a better idea of what is happening in the home. If not, that's fine too. I could give you some suggestions on how to handle activity if you would prefer that over having a team come out to investigate.
